Most grade schools sponsor field trips to the local zoo or museum -- but the Creative Arts Charter School in San Francisco sends their first graders to lesbian weddings.
The first-graders were taken to City Hall where Mayor Gavin Newsom officiated the wedding of their teacher to her significant other. Supporters of traditional marriage are outraged, calling it an attempt to "indoctrinate" the students, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
"It's just utterly unreasonable that a public school field trip would be to a same-sex wedding," said Chip White, press secretary for the Yes on 8 campaign, told the Chronicle. "This is overt indoctrination of children who are too young to have an understanding of its purpose."
The school defended the field trip as academically relevant.
"It really is what we call a teachable moment," Liz Jaroslow told the newspaper. "I think I'm well within the parameters."
