  1. It is "Christ"mas Tree – It it quacks like a duck. Put ut up on Christmas and it is a Christmas Tree.

It has always been a Christmas tree. A "holiday tree" really? Shouldn't say "Merry Christmas", nativity scenes are taboo, don't talk about Jesus in public schools….how come it's always proper to offend Christians?

Actually it was a Saturnalia tree long before it was adopted by the Germans in the 16th century.

Lisa Gutierrez Ambler So because this was "adapted" from something in the 16th century that nobody has ever heard of, it's okay to disrespect an entire religious faith? Kwanzaa is new too. I don't know where it's origins lie, but should I disrespect people who enjoy celebrating it? I don't think so. Maybe people had better look up the meaning of "tolerance" again.

    • How is it disrespectful to use a tree for a different purpose when its current common use is different from its original purpose? Also, I've never heard that everyone is forbidden from saying Merry Christmas – people might not reply in-kind, but so what. Also, other religious figures aren't discussed in public schools – it's not personal, it's just separation of church and state.

    • A tree by any other name smells as pine-y.

  5. I'm glad Atheists and others don't celebrate Christmas. Its more stuff for us. Ho Ho Ho!

  6. If you put it up at Christmas its a Christmas Tree, if you pull it at Christmas its a Christmas Cracker, if its made of dried fruit, steamed and eaten at Christmas its a Christmas Pudding, if you hang it on the fireplace instead of your feet at christmas its a Christmas stocking, if you listen to a story about Mary and Joseph being turn away from the Inn and giving birth to a Son in a manger, who just happens to be the Saviour of the world, its The Christmas Story. If you don't respect the beginnings of Christianity, and it offends you, then I suggest you get your own darn.
    holliday!

ron scott, we have our own 'darn' holiday… it's called chanukah… and this year your holiday falls out in the middle of ours! keep your tree… it's meaningless to us, we don't use them, we don't want them… if you're going to have a hissy fit over a tree which the christian church 'borrowed' from the pagans when they were trying to convert the scandinavians and germans, calm down! nobody is taking your 'yule log' your 'christmas tree'.. nobody wants them, to be honest!!!

Cathryn Rauh Christians and Jews are supposed to stand together. That is what God has decreed. Nobody is downplaying Chanukah (Hannakuh), but then again, everybody attacks Christmas. Christians and Jews should be defending each other and their respective faiths and traditions.

    • I have a great friend and neighbor who is like a son to us. He is an observing Jew whom we respect. We also respect his observance of all Jewish holidays. We are fortunate to be able to discuss religion at any time. Happy Chanukah Cathryn, and just for the record I would rather celebrate the birth of Christ in April.

    • Debbie Best Running along those lines, shouldn't you be defending Muslims, too? They are the only other religion to believe in Jesus…

  7. 'War On Christmas' RI Gov Overrides House Bill TO Name Christmas Tree 'Christmas Tree' – So The What Do Call The Menorah? A 'Stick With Candles'? Jeez! Let's Stop The Political Correctness! Christmas is the birthday of Christ. 'Christ' as in 'Christ-mas' -

The end time is near – when you are almost forced not to mention the The Christ and Jesus and our leaders are ashamed of being CHRISTIAN and cower to the will of non believers and ani christians. I thank God that I believe and will never denounce the Lord or shy away from being who I am. Merry Christmas Everyone.

  9. Vote out the heathen bums and say Merry Christmas every chance you get.

  12. Okay! You folks that want to call it a Holiday tree instead of a Christmas tree need to start putting up the holiday tree on all of the other holidays clebrated in our country. So you and all the non-belivers can put up a tree on Thanksgiving, 4th of July Independance Day, Halloween, Labor Day, and all of the other holidays celebrated then decorate them in accordance to the holiday. I did not mention Easter since it is a religious holiday and that may again be something for you folks to attack. By the way if you do not believe in this religious holiday then please ask your boss that you want to stay at work and not take the paid holiday. Christmas holiday is a time for celebrating thebirth of the Lord. Do not decorate, go to parties, take the paid holiday time off from work, do not purchase and exchange gifts, do not make a family dinner, do not get togather with family during this period of time – just stay at work and do not believe in any religion.

so gary cabigon.. if i don't believe in christianity, then my religion doesn't count for anything? it so happens that MY religion has a holiday, which this year has your holiday right in the middle of it. so, you think that it's grand for christians to celebrate christmas, but jews can't celebrate chanukah??? that if i don't choose to follow your way, any and every other way is automatically invalid? nice to know this… i'll keep it in mind with all other dealings with all other christians, as well… at least someone is being honest about your party line!! if it happens that my holiday coincides with yours, then mine is cancelled out? and, your supposition that people have the choice to go to work when businesses are closed is funny!! should they break in, in order to work? it's just good to know that the christian opinion is that nobody else matters, or counts!!! and you wonder why there are people who don't fall down dead over your feelings??? try the whole "doing unto others as you would have others doing unto you".. it might actually win you some points with people don't share your belief system. and your chip on your shoulder is bigger than the whole "beam and mote" thing – you hypocrite!!!
