The New York Dept. of Education has launched an investigation over reports that a group of middle school students were caught throwing trash into the reflecting pools of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum during a recent school field trip.

Students from Junior High School 292 in East New York were accused of treating the reflecting pools “like a garbage dump,” the New York Daily News reported.
Memorial spokesman Michael Frazier confirmed to the newspaper that the students were booted from the memorial for tossing refuse into the reflecting pools.
In addition, one of the students reportedly tried to bring firearm ammunition into the site. Police said they found three .33-caliber rounds in a plastic bin in the security area.
“It really is so sad that anyone would disrespect the souls that were lost in the terrorist attacks back on 9/11,” said Al Hagan, president of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association. “One can only hope that these children do not become lost and that they learn from their mistakes.”
But that’s not likely.
One student told the newspaper that “no one was disrespecting. It was nothing like that. Everyone was kind of bored and it was just like something to do.”
Eyewitnesses told the Daily News that the kids threw empty soda bottles and baseballs into the pools — marking the original footprints of the World Trade Center towers.
“They were making jokes and throwing stuff in the fountain,” said another student. “It didn’t seem like a big deal.”
But other visitors were outraged by their behavior.
“That is an absolute disgrace,” Sharon Hooks told the newspaper. “I don’t care if these children were too young to remember the events of that day. They need to be taught to be respectful.
“It’s a memorial,” Rene LaRosa told the Daily News. “They showed an absolute lack of respect.”

Respect for teachers, respect for learning, and when it comes to field trips, respect for history. I dont know about you, but back when I was in school, teachers would NOT tolerate disrespect and would stress respect for each other and for authority. Sure, the parents have to instill that at home, but it has to be reiterated in school as well. I dont know where you get off saying what you do, then again that kind of irrational stupidity of thinking is part of your fallible programming. A good parent never wants to have to resort to disciplining their child, but if circumstances call for it, it must be done to teach that child a lesson and give them the incentive to not repeat their pattern of bad behavior after being forewarned and lectured in the first place. Some kids don't need disciplining because they're obedient and listen to their parents and respect authority which could be attributed to any combination of good parenting and a good environment ideal for raising kids. Discipline is a last resort when all else fails. Whether you like it or not, the saying "spare the rod, spoil the child" rings true today as it did in the past – but only as a last resort.
There is a huge difference than spanking and abusing. No parent likes to discipline their child. A "good" parent doesn't abuse their kids, but a "great" parent refuses to allow their kids be undisciplined.
The problem with our homes, we allow scientist and the government tell us how to raise our kids. Many have moved away from the teaching of Christ and started following Dr. Spock. We also took the males authority and reduced it to its almost extinct, causing our children to become reprobate.

Hmmm…the middle schoolers at the school I work at and my daughter attends would not behave that way. The students from our school who visited there recently were very reverent and respectful. Hmmm…can we say good parents and good manners learned from home AND parochial school?
The last two words say it all. They are taught values – government students are not – and I've taught in both public and Catholic schools. I pay big bucks for my grandkids to attend a very progressive (not in the political sense) Christian school. Its a very worthwhile investment. Sure maybe we'd like a cruise or a new car, but their education is far more important!
