A school administrator in Florida called the sheriff after a pair of consenting 12-year-olds shared a kiss on the playground.
Lee County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Orange River Elementary School after two female students were debating over who liked a 12-year-old boy more. At that point, one of the girls walked over and kissed the boy – leading an assistant principal to call authorities.
The administrator initially contacted the Florida Dept. of Children and Families. However, DCF told the school that they needed to call local law enforcement.
“They called us and said they caught two children kissing on the playground,” Sgt. Stephanie Eller told Fox News & Commentary. “The reality is it was probably something innocent between two kids on the playground.”
Eller said the deputies took a report and documented the incident, but determined no crime had been committed.
“If it had been a crime at all it would have been a simple battery,” Eller said. “The battery consists of the unwanted touching of one person to another.”
She said no one was arrested.
“At this point, it doesn’t look like we have anyone who was an unwilling participant in this,’ she said, referring to the playground smooch.
Eller said she suspected the school was being overly cautious.
“In the past, they would have been reluctant to say anything,” she said. “That reluctance is gone because they don’t want to be the one that didn’t say something at that point at which the behavior was starting.”
However, Joe Donzelli, a spokesman for Lee County Public Schools, said that wasn’t the case at all. The school system said there was another – more serious incident that resulted in the telephone call to police.
When there is “suspicion to the level of concern, school employees are required to call DCF,” Donzelli told the Naples News.
He said school district employees are required to call DCF if they suspect abuse.
But Eller said school administrators never conveyed anything serious to the sheriff’s department.
“That was never conveyed to our deputies,” she said.
Eller said they were only called to the school because they had a report “of two children kissing.”
Meanwhile, parents are accusing the school of overreacting.
“Whatever happened to common sense,” one parent wrote to the local newspaper.
Another parent suggested the principal needed to be fired.
“A kiss between 12-year-olds, I would say, is relatively harmless,” another wrote.

And in the words of any Liberal teacher who works for a union; Oh my god, (no they wouldn't have said that, they're all Atheists) what do we do? it was a heterosexual interaction, I don't know how to handle that….. Hurry call the police, I think a crime might have been commited, or at least a crime against gay rights! My father-in-law had a plastic handgun pin that he got from his local gun club that was pinned to his hat confiscated and destroyed because of the overreaction of a government employee of the TSA with the intelligence quotient of a summer squash. It was my understanding that 2 girls were commenting on which of them liked the boy more so one of them walked up to the boy and kissed him on the lips to prove she liked him more than the other girl. No girls in my class ever did that to me, musta been my looks, breath or deodorant or all of them combined.
hey Chuck home schooling don't teach social skills to children, how do you think kids learn to interact in society. It's not at home where they are sheltered from the world. That being said I do think the ZERO TOLERANCE in schools has gotten a bit outta hand. But you have to look who is teaching the kids now days. bunch of libs sheesh.

I'd like to leave a blanket apology to all kids of today. We adults have absolutely lost our minds. It is a shame the responding police office didn't arrest every adult who had a hand in this. Does anyone over the age of , say, 40, remember being a 12 year old kid? I pick 40 because there was still sanity in this world then.

You can bet the kids got the message loud and clear. Unfortunately, I'm sure it was NOT the message any of the adults intended to convey. The message this will convey is that this was WRONG, NOT NORMAL. Any contact will be conducted privately, out of view of the adults. Guilt for normal feelings will be rampant. Some forcing will happen because some of these kids, while they may WANT to kiss, will feel that it is wrong. You will have a LOT of very messed up kids. They are being taught that their feelings are abnormal. Where will it end? With a federal SOA (similar to the DEA) overlooking our children on the playground, making sure they don't conduct kissing or hugging?
Instead of this occupy wall street crap where people don't know what they stand for we need to have an OCCUPY PUBLIC SCHOOL GROUNDS WITH PARENTS AND STUDENTS! During this SIT IN we need to have discussions about how the teachers think they are the politically correct police and how they handle situations as if all of our kids are criminals. Inmates get more rights, better meals and a better education in our prisons than our children do in public schools. Really, take a moment to think about this. Lets get this going!
Damned if you do and damned if you don't. As soon as things go further and we hear about a pregnant 12 year old, someone will be wondering where the teachers and administrators were and why they didn't do anything. However, it should have been handled internally and parents should have been notified. When parents abrogate their responsibilities to the schools then this is what you get. I am not accusing these particular parents. It was a blanket statement about the direction that things have been going for decades.

You know, that agency that thinks it is a good idea to teach children at age 10 that condoms are for safe sex and they should not be required to tell parents their 16 year old daughter is considering an abortion without telling them.

Vote for candidates that will cut the bureaucracies that have created moronic policies such as the one in this article, audit the federal reserve, and slash spending. This might be the last chance you get to vote for your leaders.
I'm not really sure what's more sad: that fact the cops were even called, or that the school was so afraid of what could potentially happen if they didn't….what a shame. Common sense was seriously lacking here.

As you can all see, 2012 is nearing us day by day. Just a taste of what the world ending will be like, LoL! I guess you can't blame it all on the school. The school admin fears the wrath of stupid parents who will look to file pansy ass lawsuits against them. I kind of understand where the policy comes from. With those parents looking for money, you have only seen the tip of the iceburg on this one fellas. The world as we know it will die off little by little.
Well, the only potential good news from this story is that we have hit rock bottom as a society. Hopefully, things improve from here.

I work at a school and I can tell you that I think we have gotten so afraid of the Parents…you second guess yourself with every decision..I'm betting they were thinking a parent would sue, parents have gone crazy…no offense to anyone.

Lets face it from the time our kids are 5 or 6 teachers mold our children more than we do. Teachers are paid nothing and often spend their own money for supplies. I am sure the guide lines at this school required them to make these calls. What if something happened later as a result of this simple kiss, this did start from these two girls fighting over the boy. Schools have no control because parents wanting to raise their children without rules stepped in and took away all the rights of schools to discipline. School staff can not even look at kids in a disciplinary way without some parent somewhere wanting to sue. I am sure this is only part of the story. Change did not start at the school level they just have to follow the rules, and teachers can be fired or "asked to resign."
I wish my kids and grand kids could live in the America I lived in. Its gone and I really doubt that its coming back. The United States has gone to hell in a hand basket. The problem is, this is the best man kind can do….. there is no where better to go. Blame it on the liberals.

Come on people, this is a product of our endless search for the free buck! We as a society have been suing people "in trust" for years and now we are seeing the result of this trend. Any teacher or administrator who under reports this stuff, that any normal person would consider harmless, opens them self up to a law suit from a parent, or lawyer, that see an opportunity for easy cash. As someone that has been responsible for establishing policies regarding child protection, we are more afraid of being sued for lack of proper procedure than we are for actually protecting the child. Wake up and view the world we have created for ourselves!
