A tenured California college professor was the focus of a four-month investigation after he wrote a letter to the local newspaper critical of the school’s plans for a new degree in homosexual studies.
The letter appeared in the Alameda Journal after the College of Alameda announced it was creating a new degree program in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies. The faculty member raised questions about budget priorities and the appearance of nepotism related to the new degree.

Shortly afterwards, the professor was confronted by an irate co-worker who filed a formal complaint of sexual harassment – stemming from the letter. The investigation took four months. He did not face disciplinary action – but was warned not to discuss the investigation with anyone but his legal counsel.
“This is an egregious violation of his rights under the First Amendment and shows the growing intolerance and one-sided tyranny of community colleges like Alameda,” said Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute and the professor’s legal counsel.
“This action by the community college against this professor – simply for critiquing a new, controversial class on LGBT is a serious violation of the free speech rights of this professor,” he said.
Dacus said they are not releasing the name of the professor over fears he might suffer additional reprisals in the community.
“They treated him like he was some sort of criminal simply because he questioned the merits of the community college spending their limited resources on a class that was purely for the purposes of exploring and discussing controversial sexual lifestyles,” he said.
Messages left with the College of Alameda were not returned.
The college has a history of restricting free speech. Less than 5 years ago, they were the defendants in a federal lawsuit after two students were suspended and threatened with expulsion for praying on campus. That case was later settled.
Dacus said they plan on holding the college accountable after what they did to the professor. He said it’s not unusual for opinions to be stifled in that part of California – near San Francisco.
“That community likes to pride itself on being tolerant,” he said. “But one-way tolerance is not tolerance at all. It’s tyranny.”

My problem is that it's not just tuition paying for this course, Chris; it's taxpayer dollars. If the college wanted to have a course on Christian studies rather than just general religious studies, the taxpayers would probably cry foul over it because of the Establishment Clause in the First Amendment. Yes, every student has the right to study what they wish, but when a state-funded college is paying for things like this the taxpayers get a say. Yes, I'm a lesbian, but I don't think limited government resources should be spent on something like this.

Let's talk about LGBT without religion, shall we? Before anything, if anyone has a argument to add or counter me, feel free to do so.
In order for a social behavior to be deemed as normal it should be the norm, the rule, without damaging the world or society.LGBT movement says that homossexuality is something natural that should be embraced (and any homossexual who tries to go against it, by his or hers own will, is ridicularized and persecuted like an animal). If all humans were homossexual now, nobody would have kids naturally. All kids would to be "in vitro".
In our current world, many adopted kids have the desire to meet with their biological parents. Which would lead to a chaos. Why? because all kids in the entire world would have just one of their biological parents (if not none) which would spark the curiosity to meet and bond with the missing parent. a gay guy could easily be the father of 20 kids (depending of how often he donated sperm) and a woman could also be the mother of some children too. And since all they did was to give the means necessary to the child be born without caring much how the child is going (this also happens in our world, by the way). Say something like "I don't want to do anything with you." in a global-wide range can have some nasty consequences on the children who manage to track down the missing biological parent. Also forbid the child to do so can also have some nasty repercussions.
Now considering if the "missing parent" likes the child and want to be part of his/her life. What would be the couple who was supposed to be the legal parents going to fell about a "stranger" butting in their homes? Again, in a global wide fenomenon.
And let's not forget that there are many people who wouldn't be comfortable with the idea of being the parent of an child who he/she may never come across with. This would damage the world population because many would die and few would be born unless the government created laws to coerce people in having children since no child can be born from a homossexual sex intercourse. This would "just" exponencially increase the number of unwanted children since many women would be coerced to carry a man's baby and most likely raise the kid herself (or not). This would mean pretty much a forced insemination (which can be interpreted as a some kind of mild legalized rape).
But again, all that considering if all humans turned homossexual NOW. In a time when we have the means to have "artificial" kids and the means to coerce people into having them. But what about 10.000 (or more) years ago? According with the evolution theory, we started off VERY primitive with no organized society and with a short life spam. Nobody would be alive now since cavemen were basicially instinct driven mostly and the homossexual instinct being the norm would prevent any child from being born.
Remember, everyone, just because you're against a way of think, it doesn't automatically mean that you hate the person you're criticizing. I have nothing against homossexuals. What I don't like is the act of homossexuality (there's a difference). For those who don't know, the Catholicism says that a homossexual can go to heaven, as long as the homossexual remains chast and united with God and Catholicism also states that we shouldn't hate or treat badly homossexuals, but give them love and care. This, however, doesn't mean we should accept everything thrown at us.

It wouldn't be a degree but most likely count towards a student's course requirements in either history or humanities. Either way the course isn't worthy of the money needed to fund it. Especially in a state where the budget is shockingly atrocious. They should funnel what money they would of pumped into the course into things that are useful towards a degree or trade.

This professor and his counsel may want to look into the new regulations imposed by the National Labor Relations Board. In their newest ruling they have mandated that an employer can not tell an employee to refrain from discussing ongoing investigations. The NLRB has decided that that is a violation of First Amendment rights of the employee. Yet another stupid ruling by an incompetent Government body. However, that notwithstanding, this professor has a very valid claim for employer abuse with NLRB under the new rules and should be adding that to his claim. If he hasn't done it already his counsel is asleep at the wheel.

The main point of this story is not that gays are being attacked but the power of the liberal community to destroy those who disagree with them in a collegiate setting.

That is mt cats name that died and I mistakenly posted this from a site I do animal, dog/cat/horse rescue from; I think lot of classes are bizarre in college, but maybe those kids need those classes so gay kids finally stop feeling so bad about themselves; everyone has problems and anyone can get diminiscrated against, but I find it funny how other people get to choose if I am able to get married, have tax benefits, inheritance, etc., just very ahrd loopholes in contracts to jump through; people will always have group they need to pick on to make themselves feel better, I wish they did not use word sexual orientation, it isn't really about sex, I could have sex with a woman but I could not fall in love with her……………it isn't about sex, and this is digressing, peace out and before peope jump in and yell about something else, take a deep breath, we are all in this together..just realize that lot of what fox spews hurts lot of people's lives, and how could it not?

What has a college education have to do with the topic? It comes down to if you believe this is an appropriate course that would lead to a degree that would be useful. Sometimes common sense takes precedence over the amout of education one has.

The colleges are having financial troubles. The CSU system is talking about raising fees on the students AGAIN. Community colleges are having a very difficult time.
So where is the money coming from for LGBT studies? I'd rather see classes in the core curriculum and majors that have practical uses (such as engineering).

OK, I can by some courses in LBGT Studies, but a degree program? I guess questioning anything that deals with LBGT makes you public enemy #1 and that's sad. The college investigated the complaint and determined the professor did nothing wrong. Complaints MUST be investigated by law, but why leave out the results of the 'probe'? Starnes should report the whole story rather than just the parts that fit into his culture war.
