A Florida community college has launched an investigation and placed a tenured professor on leave over reports that she made students in a math class sign a pledge to vote for President Obama.
A spokesman for Brevard Community College told Fox News that Sharon Sweet was placed on an unpaid leave of absence effective immediately after they received a call from a concerned parent.

“The allegations center on her soliciting support in her classes for President Obama in the upcoming election,” said college spokesman John Glisch in a statement to Fox News.
The website Watchdogwire.com, which first reported the allegations, said the students were told to sign a pledge that read: “I pledge to vote for President Obama and Democrats up and down the ticket.”
They were also given bookmarks from gottavote.org - a website paid for by the Obama-Biden campaign — targeting young voters, the website reported.
Glisch said they learned of the incident last Thursday and launched an immediate investigation. He said they plan on interviewing as many as 100 students to determine who may have signed the pledge.
“The college has specific policies that address the political activities of faculty and staff, which state that no college employee shall solicit support for a political candidate during regular college work hours or on college property,” Glisch said.
He said Sweet asked for — and was granted an immediate leave of absence without pay — effective immediately.
Sweet is a tenured professor who has been at the college for five years, he said. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, she could be exonerated, suspended or terminated.
Glisch said steps are also being taken to make sure all faculty and staff are aware of policies on political activity.

Teachers are smart they know who will save there Unions. Makes me sick that our teachers (because there's more than this one) can spread such lies in the classroom. The kids can be taught this garbage but after a few years in the real world there views will change.

What I find troubling here is that not one student saw a problem with this while it was happening in a MATH CLASS. I am lucky enough to have attended a university where teachers did not take you challenging them personally. I just envision these kids today going into debt with the government while they get programmed by government employees to get a job working for the government. Has not the Democratic Party embraced outright Socialism and class warfare? It should be a federal crime to have someone sign a pledge that says you are going to vote one way or another. This cuts to the core of our democracy – 1 man – 1 vote.
We need to raise taxes on the rich. By the way, tax-exempt universities are rich. Start taxing them, and I'll bet you anything that in 10 years Harvard and UCLA will be bastions of conservatism.

She should be terminated ASAP without question. If she didn't know this was wrong, it shows that she's devoid of all common sense and not fit to be a college professor in the first place. Makes one wonder how many more there are out there who are engaging in this kind of coersion. It's wrong no matter which candidate/party they're pushing. It's just as wrong as the woman who came to the poll where I was poll watching in 2008 and was bragging on how her husband didn't want to bother to vote so she ordered an absentee ballot for him and marked it for Obama and a straight Democrat ticket. I asked her, "Do you realize that's a federal offense?" She was shocked — totally clueless. Maybe part of the problem is that we have too many out there who don't understand that these things are not right and not LEGAL and their enthusiasm carries them away (giving the benefit of the doubt to SOME). It surely wouldn't stop all from doing it anyway, but some might not if they were informed. We obviously can't trust moral integrity and common sense to guide all. Geeesh…

The Democrat manual on page 477 section B subparagraph 1, states that it is their responsibility to be sure that all the dead vote early and vote often. It concludes with the warning "In case of resurrection lasting more than four days see a doctor, if you can find one"

When I went to college I made the stupid decision to major in Sociology. I was told by my professor that being conservative showed that I did not have a grasp of the material and would cause me to not be as successful acidemically as other students. I would literally get papers returned because my conculsions were not valid (becuase my results showed that people who worked hard were successful and whatnot). I only got A's on papers I wrote in 30 minutes when I was loaded on Wind Turkey. I basically just copied the liberal brainwash that I took down as notes in class and filled it with Karl Marx quotes. Sociology Professors have hard-ons for Marx.

One reason why the left goes after government and teaching jobs is they cannot compete with the real workers in the world. So it's the coshy non-responsible jobs in which it takes an act of congress to get them fires. Since congress does nothing but spend money, the leftists jobs are secued and tenured.

I have a friend who has a kid in high school. He was given as a weekend assignment the following task: explain why President Obama is an effective leader and include supporting information for your conclusions.
OK, I'm thinking. This is blatant, wrong, etc… But, wait for it…
"Brian" is not your average kid. He is smart, stubborn and bold.
His entire paper read "After due diligence I find that the argument is inconclusive at best, as there is no actual data to show even poor leadership after 3 full years as President. So I must state that the question is therefore invalid, as he is not an effective leader."
After that he put up some links to various pages and websites, carefully documenting his sources. He (and his parents) were prepared for some serious headbutting with the school.
At the beginning of class that Monday, the students were called upon to read their reports in front of the class. After a half dozen or so expected reports touting the Nobel Prize, his "genius" and his popularity, up stepped Brian.
After he began, there were some snickers, whispers of "loser" and "liar". His report was short and to the point. Afterwards, he turned, handed it to his teacher with his usual wicked grin of satisfaction and returned to his seat.
At the end of class on Tuesday, the grades were posted for the assignment. There were 2 "D"s, 11 "C"s, 8 "B"s, and 1 "A". Guess who got the "A".
As it turned out, it was an exercise in gathering data rather than the expected popularity contest. The conclusions weren't important, the supporting data and references were. Rather than relying on here-say, the teacher was looking for research. By using passion as his motivation, Brian turned out to be the only one in class to satisfy what the teacher was looking for.
Don't give up just yet, there are still a few of them left. And I'm told that the teacher is still fairly young, so he should be at it for a long time.

I recently went back to college at age 39. Libiralism is Alive and well in most classrooms! I am an A student but last semester I got my first B b/c of an Obama Supporter Teacher who told the class why she was voting for Obama and why Romney would be a terrible potus. I am too old to be influenced by these teachers but what about those young minds? Having lived in Cuba, I see PROPAGANDA for Obama everyday in this country, through the media and the classroom! The Media is in the pockets of Obama and his cronies….

Erik Jensen : NO, higher education has no business teaching students how to spell. That is the job of teachers in the elementary schools, all of whom have been TRAINED and CERTIFIED competent to teach by the universities. Unfortunately, after 30 years in the sacrosanct halls of ivy, I fear that all too many university faculty could not pass the National Teacher Examination. University faculty, unfortunately, are not required to demonstrate ANY competence in teaching.
