A veteran Dallas police sergeant is under investigation after two lesbian officers complained that he brought a Chick-fil-A sandwich to work – and made comments they alleged were inappropriate.

The incident occurred last week on “National Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day,” an event created to show support for the restaurant chain’s position on traditional marriage.

Sgt. Mark Johnson, a 12-year veteran of the police force is accused of placing the sandwich bag in front of the two lesbian officers and making comments they found offensive.

Exactly what was said is unclear.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Johnson told the pair he had eaten at the restaurant that day. The officers apparently felt the sergeant was trying to send them a message, the paper reported.

“I just think there’s a misunderstanding between the two over the Chick-fil-a sandwich,” said Ron Pinkston, president of the Dallas Police Association.

Pinkston’s organization is representing all three officers in the dispute.

He said Johnson was leading a “detail” report when he read a bulletin advising officers of an anti-Chick-fil-A protest scheduled two days later.

Pinkston said Johnson was just doing his job.

“The sergeant’s job is to get up in front of the detail and read bulletins,” he told Fox 4 News. “One of the bulletins that day was a bulletin about the Chick-fil-A project. It just compounded it.”

The Daily News reported that the two lesbian officers told supervisors that Johnson was looking at them as he read the announcement.

Internal Affairs has launched an investigation. Meanwhile, Johnson has been reassigned to the overnight shift at the jail.

Pinkston said told Fox 4 News that he is upset with how Johnson has been treated.

“Boom – he just got transferred overnight without even asking him his side of the story,” Pinkston said. “That’s the big issue for us – no due process.”

Asst. Chief Michael Genovesis told the Dallas Morning News that he had heard both sides of the matter and said he will let the investigation play out.

“Clearly there was some conversation between him and a couple of subordinates regarding Chick-fil-A,” he told the newspaper.

  1. Clearly most people writing comments haven't read the article past the sensationalist headline.
the complaint wasn't about the sandwich… but about what he said to the women.
"Sgt. Mark Johnson, a 12-year veteran of the police force is accused of placing the sandwich bag in front of the two lesbian officers and making comments they found offensive."

  2. Political Correctness is the reason we are in the shape we are in. I sold out of my business because it was too difficult to be certain I had the right mix of Black, Mexican, straight and queers. Sorry, I am not PC and am too old to start trying to be. The First Amendment says I have the right to say what I want as long as I don't yell fire in a movie theater according to the Left, so I say what I want and the PC Left can pick a cheek to kiss. Hay, I am me, anyone don't like it: KMFA.

  3. One more episode of Gay bullying in the workplace.

WE GET ACCUSED OF OFFENDING THEIR BELIEFS WHAT ABOUT MY BELIEFS? THEY ARE BEING OFFENDED. I HAVE THE BELIEF THAT I CAN EAT A CHICKEN SANDWICH FROM ANYWHERE I WANT AND IF THAT STORE SHARES THE SAME VALUES AS ME THEN EVEN BETTER, I SHOULDN'T BE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST. OH WAH CRY ME A RIVER THEN GET IN A BOAT AND FLOAT ON DOWN STREAM.

Why are you yelling Jon Cox?

    • Jon Cox /

I'm not yelling there is no exclamation points. Lol!!!

    • Cat Egan /

Actually, employers have the right to fire employees for harassing other employees. Simply because you are Christian and anti-gay, doesn't mean you can make inappropriate comments at work. You can't argue that these ladies wouldn't have been in just as much trouble if they made inappropriate remarks to the male officer for being Christian, male, or heterosexual. He is the one being investigated for discrimination. Re-read the article.

  5. Sounds like to me the lesbians have a bad case of a guilty conscience… this male officer did nothing wrong… this is stupid!

    • Kelly Calder /

      Guilty conscience over what?

    • Obviously they have problems thinking some one is descrimnating against them because of their behavior……like the article said' he was looking at us'… who gives a shit who is looking at who… if your not doing nothing wrong, then you dont automatically think some one is 'looking at you' when they refer to something…and make no mistake… a woman and a woman , and a man and a man, it totally unnatural, I dont give a shit what argument the gays try to give….. they know it, they just try to justify it and hollar discrimination.. it is what it is… I dont care what they do..they(refering to gays) are the ones making a big deal out of their behavior.

    • Cat Egan /

So when people report harassment in the workplace based on race, sexual orientation, religion, etc. it means they have a guilty conscience? I can't wrap my head around that one. Maybe because it has no logic.

  6. Kelly Calder /

No one knows what happened so how can ANYONE comment on this? Especially Todd Starnes…three sides to every story. Yours, the other guy and the truth.

  7. Kelly Ross Fryman /

that is so messed up he cant even eat what he wants without someone complaining.

    • Cat Egan /

Stop cutting articles down to read what you want to read. The article never reported that he was simply eating his food.

    • Kelly Ross Fryman /

John 15:18 read it makes perfect sence to what is going on with this stuff they are screaming out stop the hate when in fact all they do is hate

    • Cat Egan /

John 15:18 doesn't mean anything to those who don't believe in it. You see, if that were true then wouldn't that mean that all other religions were wrong and going to hell? I don't believe in your religion, or your God. I have my own beliefs, and that doesn't make me more or less of a person than you.

  8. Kelly Ross Fryman /

I personally could careless who sleeps with who but don't tell me what I can eat or where I can eat I am a fat girl that loves my food and this is BULLYING.

    • Cat Egan /

The male officer was bullying them. Read the article, and stop trolling.

  9. Ernest Durrance /

Oh so now we've lost the right to eat chicken sandwiches? I bet there is a few lawyers that would love to help Mr. Johnson with that case of discrimination.

  10. gee, why don't we investigate everybody who eats McDonald's? or KFC? ridiculous!

    • There is no "right" to control people's speech so that you are not offended. Voltaire, an atheist, said: I might not like what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

  11. Lee Baughcum /

All this is is two morons trying to get on the bamdwagon. I think he should sue them. Why is what he supposedly said. It says it is not clear what is said but he was transfered right away. What is that.

    • Dude, what is with the name calling? Sure it says it is not clear what he said, but unless you were there, how do you know what was said. Maybe they are just not releasing it yet.

    • The transfer I am iffy about, but that is no different then someone being"charged" with a crime and locked up before being found innocent or guilty.

  12. Mitchina Soli /

I really wish you freaking ahole reporters would get the main crux of that day RIGHT! HOLY FREAKING HELL, MAN! IT WAS NOT ABOUT ANYTHING ANTI OR PRO HOMSEXUAL. It was ALL ABOUT OUR RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH AND RELIGION! EFIN GET IT RIGHT, DUMBASSES!

    • Kelly Calder /

Whose free speech or religion was affected in regards to CFA? Whose? No one's.

  13. Mitchina Soli /

And with this story – it is now going to be extended to INNOCENT BEFORE PROVEN GUILTY AS A CONSERVATIVE THAT SUPPORTS THE CONSTITUTION! Since WHEN does a ranking officer's rights get dismissed over that of a low life lesbian cop over JUST AN ALLIGATION? WTF is going on here? I am going to email this department and tell them off. Fkg aholes.

    • Cat Egan /

A low life lesbian cop? For you to say that about someone you don't even know shows that you have issues. Obviously you misread the article, as it says that the male officer is being investigated for inappropriate remarks. You can't pretend to have been there, or to know whether these women are liars. But the fact you speak that way when you don't actually know what happened, shows how much hatred you harbor for gay people, and for women.

  14. I cant believe the priitive nature of some statements on here. I'm not gay but I can honestly say I think they are just as human as I am and deserve the same rights. And I'm pretty sure a good chunk of 'em aren't nazis either.

  15. Mike Steeves /

What I want to know is what Todd's going to do about the Willow Springs Water Park fiasco. Clearly, it's a case of rabid persecution of Christians, possibly even more egregious than the persecution that takes place in NORK, Iran, and China. Have these people no shame!

    • Kelly Calder /

I'm sorry but how is this: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/08/13/complaints-prompt-water-park-to-end-discounts-for-church-groups/ at Willow Park in ANY WAY "persecution" or "more egregious" than the persecution that takes place in Korea, China or Iran. Are you kidding me Mike Steeves? So now church groups don't get a discount – that's comparable to the bombings and suffering of Christians in those countries you mentioned? That's the problem with the US. We have it so good we think any time something gets taken away it's "persecution" and the end of the world.

The park didn't have to stop discounts. Why couldn't they give that non-profit YOUTH GROUP a discount?!?! If they are going to offer one group a discount they should offer others or none at all. So that's what they did. Why are the kids in the church group more special than the kids in the non-secular group? YOU have no shame.

    • Mike Steeves /

@Kelly: Get a grip. I was pulling a few legs. Looks like yours came off in my hand. Starnes and his band of ideological lemmings are big on 'Christian victimhood.' They are professionals at it. An atheist farts outside a church, and it's some kind of chemical attack on Christ himself. That sort of thing.Let me draw your attention to: http://lajuntablog.blogspot.com/2012/07/christian-evangelists.html
