The Philadelphia City Council will consider a resolution condemning Chick-fil-A for what one city leader called “anti-American” attitudes that promote “hatred, bigotry and discrimination.”
City Councilman Jim Kenney sent a letter to Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy telling him to “take a hike and take your intolerance with you.”

“My effort is to allow people to understand that in certain segments of corporate America there are folks who are using their dollars to promote hatred, bigotry and discrimination,” Kenney told Fox News.
He is introducing a resolution to “condemn this anti-American attitude of trying to deny civil liberties that every American enjoys.”
Kenney joined the mayors of Boston, Chicago and now San Francisco in blasting the Atlanta-based company for supporting a biblical definition of marriage – a union between one man and one woman.
Cathy told Baptist Press that he is “guilty as charged” when it comes to supporting traditional marriage.
Kenney said individuals who do not support gay marriage should understand there are consequences to their belief.
“If he really, truly believes what he believes, that is his right to do so,” he told Fox News. “But there is often a price to pay for that.”
San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee tweeted his outrage over Chick-fil-A’s support of traditional marriage: “”Very disappointed #ChickFilA doesn’t share San Francisco values & strong commitment to equality for everyone.”
He also warned the company not to do business in the Bay Area.
“Closest #ChickFilA to San Francisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer,” he tweeted.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel issued a statement saying “Chick fil A values are not Chicago values.” And an alderman vowed to block construction of a second restaurant in the city.
Boston’s mayor later backed off similar threats – saying he didn’t have the authority to banish the chicken restaurant.
Likewise, Kenney said he had no authority to shut down Chick-fil-A – but he did want to warn consumers.
“This particular individual is rabidly homophobic and wants to deny Americans civil rights that are enjoyed by every other American,” Kennedy said.
However, there is no evidence that Chick-fil-A has denied service to any homosexual. And the groups that Chick-fil-A supports are well-known Christian ministries – not anti-gay hate groups, as critics have alleged.
Fox News Channel host Mike Huckabee has launched a nationwide effort to show support for the besieged family-owned company – declaring August 1st as “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.”
The company has received massive support from conservatives including Billy Graham, Rick Santorum and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Columnist Michelle Malkin criticized elected officials for trying to put the family-friendly restaurant out of business.
“When an elected public official wields the club of government against a Christian business in the name of ‘tolerance,’ it’s not harmless kid stuff,” she wrote. “It’s chilling.”
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he strongly disagrees with the mayors and said the fast food chain’s support of traditional marriage is none of “the government’s business.”
Bloomberg, who supports gay marriage, said cities should not ask about political beliefs before issuing a permit.

It's amazing… A corp exec is asked his opinion. He gives a straight answer (pun intended) and is threatened by all those tolerant people who have a differing opinion. Another one of those tolerant ones commenting below even accuses Chick-fil-a of TEACHING against love an tolerance. The exec didn't even mention his own beliefs until he was asked. Also Bloomberg was smart to say what he did… TWO stupid statements ("cops should strike") in one week would not have been good.

Good for Chick Fil A standing up to the homosexual agenda for our nation. In the South we have a double ring ceremony for the marriage of one man and one woman, in the north places like Boston they have a double anal ceremony for Bawney Frank and his male bride for the perverts. Chick Fil A is a multi Billion dollar company that shuts on Sunday to allow all their employees attend church and honor the Sabbath of the Chrsitian faith. 38 States and hundreds of millions of Americans stand with Chick Fila in saying no to the pro gay potus and the homosexuals.
You gotta love the left in how they control the direction and conditions of the debate. You see they make the conversation about Gays, that if you Support Gays you must support same sex marriage and conversely if you don't support changing marriage then you are taking that position because you don't support the Gay community. Those are their terms for the debate, cleaver aren't they because they leave out a large number of people such as myself who see the debate as one of not rushing into changing on an impulse one of Societies foundations. Why the rush to change Marriage, it has served Humankind for many a Millennium and many people such as myself think we need to think about this, to try and understand what will be the consequences today and 3 generations down the road. This is such bigotry. Mr. Cathy simply stated his position. Which, I understand, has not changed nor has ever reflected in his business practice. I happen to agree with his position. But, I have friends, close friends, that are gay. That's their choice. But, I still have my beliefs. Just because a business is owned or runned by a gay, means little to me if that's where I choose to shop. I would never, ever consider not giving my business to someone just because they are gay. So, how is it the gay population and their supporters feel they have to right to ban a business just because of their beliefs. Such hypocrites. It's time the gay community come out in support of CFA to show that they are just people like the rest of us, just they have a different lifestyle. This whole damn world has gone crazy. Chick-fil-A did not wade into this. A dude was asked a question and he gave a personal opinion. That is it. The restaurant does not discriminate against homosexuals. They do not refuse to serve homosexuals. If people want to judge the restaurant, that is perfectly fine. It should be done with one's wallet and not the boot of the government. Hello…ACLU.

Oh, and we were going to go to Chicago for a Vacation this year… when this came out- we changed our plans and the other day we booked out vacation to Gulf Shores Alabama. We will Boycott Chicago… if we had plans to go to Boston, Philadelphia or any other city like this- we would have changed our plans too… We also have a choice as to where we will spend our money.

its called freedom of speech, before they condemn Chick-Fil-A they may want to research other companies to see if they follow and believe all that they agree with so they can shut them down also. Gas stations, food companies, grocery stores, when they are done there will no where left to eat or shop.
You know there was a group like that in the early 30s and 40s they didn't allow any opposition to their ideas. They did not want any ideas that were contrary to their beliefs to get out in the public, so you know what they did early on, they used the media to portray the groups that they didn't like as "undesirable", "hateful" the cause of all society’s ills. They encouraged the people not to shop at these groups businesses because they were the causes for the problems in the country and they were just “evil”. They even went to the university libraries and did not just ban certain titles that promoted ideas contrary to theirs, they took all books that were by people of this certain group that they thought were “hateful” and “vile” and “intolerant” and burned them in great ceremonious pomp as the other people who had their fingers in their ears and eyes closed who did not realize what was coming on them danced and cheered! You know what else happened? This group came into power by a staged scam where they were able to suspend the countries constitution because of the staged “emergency” and the leader gave himself all kinds of extra powers. This started about 1932 and in 12 years all the top leaders of that group were dead by suicide and that country that they “led” was completely wiped out and the people were left with nothing but the shame and the task of burying the group that was so “hateful” and “intolerant” and “the cause of all their problems”. So when people go out spouting about those “hateful, “intolerant” groups and doing whatever they can to incite and censor those groups, just remember their walking on the same path and utilizing the same techniques that past tyrannical governments have wheeled. Those same techniques have helped arrange the death of approximately 149 million+ people in this century alone. I'm assuming these are the forms of government their actions politically support, i.e., communist, authoritarian, all powerful central government no individual rights. And the only people that prosper in those forms of government are the top leadership. The rest might get some crumbs if there are any left, or if they are still a live to eat.

Jackie nice to see you standing up for what is right. We go by what God says in Romans, chapter one, about gays. It is an abomination in God's sight. He doesn't hate gays, he hates their lifestyle, and that is all it is, a sinful lifestyle, and God did not make them that way, it was their choice. Folks who uphold the gay lifestyle, need to read the 1st chapter of Romans and see for themselves what God says. We didn't make it up, it's God's Word and folks are held responsible for how they live. I do not hates gays, but I certainly hate sin, and that is exactly what it is.

Why are politicians such idiots. The Chick-fil-a restaurants are FRANCHISES. That means, for the ignoramuses, they are owned by individuals. They are not owned by Mr. Cathy. I'm sure there are diverse views on every subject held by the many owners of these franchises. The restaurants are a growing business that hires many people to work in them. They do not discriminate against anyone or they wouldn't be in business. This is the opinion of one person. We in America are allowed to believe and disagree…..or so I thought.
