President Obama’s proclamation marking the September 11th terrorist attacks did not include any mention of God. The president also failed to note how Americans sought solace in their religion in the aftermath of the Al-Qaeda attacks.

“But as we mark the anniversary of September 11, we remember what remains the same: our character as a nation, our faith in one another, and our legacy as a country strengthened by service and selflessness,” the president wrote.
Instead, the president called on Americans to participate in community service to honor those who were lost.
There was no specific mention of prayer but he did call for the nation to observe a moment of silence tomorrow morning.
The proclamation comes one week after Democrats meeting in Charlotte initially removed God from their party platform. The Almighty was subsequently reinstated after a questionable vote that led some delegates to boo the Lord.
Following is President Obama’s proclamation:
PATRIOT DAY AND NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE, 2012
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
On September 11, 2001, a bright autumn day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. Thousands of innocent men, women, and children perished when mighty towers collapsed in the heart of New York City and wreckage burned in Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon. They were family and friends, service members and first responders — and the tragedy of their loss left pain that will never fade and scars our country will never forget.
More than a decade later, the world we live in is forever changed. But as we mark the anniversary of September 11, we remember what remains the same: our character as a Nation, our faith in one another, and our legacy as a country strengthened by service and selflessness. In the spirit that moved rescue workers and firefighters to charge into darkness and danger that September morning, we see the same sense of moral responsibility that drove countless Americans to give of themselves in the months that followed. We offered our neighbors a hand and lined up to give blood. Many helped our Nation rebuild and recover long after the dust had settled, donating and volunteering and helping survivors who had borne so much. We were united, and the outpouring of generosity reminded us that, through challenges that have spanned from acts of terrorism to natural disasters, we go forward together as one peopleToday, as we remember the victims, their families, and the heroes who stood up during one of our country’s darkest moments, I invite all Americans to reclaim that abiding spirit of compassion by serving their communities in the days and weeks ahead. From volunteering with a faith-based organization, to collecting food and clothing for those in need, to preparing care packages for our men and women in uniform, there are many ways to bring service into our everyday lives — and each of us can do something. To get involved and find a local service opportunity, visit www.Serve.gov, or www.Servir.gov for Spanish speakers.
Even the simplest act of kindness can be a way to honor those we have lost, and to help build stronger communities and a more resilient Nation. By joining together on this solemn anniversary, let us show that America’s sense of common purpose need not be a fleeting moment, but a lasting virtue — not just on one day, but every day.
By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day,” and by Public Law 111-13, approved April 21, 2009, the Congress has requested the observance of September 11 as an annually recognized “National Day of Service and Remembrance.”
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2012, as Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. I call upon all departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the United States to display the flag of the United States at half-staff on Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of the individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. I invite the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and interested organizations and individuals to join in this observance. I call upon the people of the United States to participate in community service in honor of those our Nation lost, to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities, including remembrance services, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time to honor the innocent victims who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this
tenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.
BARACK OBAMA

And that's why we are in the state we are now…we've turned our back on Almighty God and now…we get crap like Obama spewing hatred and his love for islam that false religion. Well guess what? I will continue to pray, and hold strong to my beliefs as the president does NOT represent me!
my country is a country of Atheists, Wiccans, Pagans, First Nation belief systems, Hindus, Sikhs, Jews, Catholics, Protestant Christians, Muslims, Buddhists etc . . .
& MY COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED WITH A STRICT SEPARATION OF GOV'T & CHURCH.
PRACTICE your belief system but don't CRAM your beliefs system down the throats of everyone else.
the wisest move those men did over 2 centuries ago. It is why we DON'T have violent religious killing & violent fighting like the Irish did only until recently. It's why we aren't like the Isrealis, the Arabs, the Pakistanis vs Indian, & all of the other unstable countries due to religion all over the world.
We live in peaceful co-existence with all religious systems as well as the Atheists.
It was belief in primitive superstitions that led to this atrocity in the first place. Instead of wasting money on a pointless revenge mission it would have been better to use the money to encourage people to think rationally about their beliefs. This might help to prevent future religious conflicts.
Obama called for three days of prayer. And Bush rarely mentioned god in his 9/11 speeches. But it is very nice that President Obama called for a bonding together in our prayer and you immediately turn against him. You must be very proud of yourself. Do you plan on using all national tragedies to try to keep Obama from being re-elected?
I would say that Mr. Obama is very shocked over the uprising of the Muslims on 9/11 with the murder of four innocent Americans. No doubt, Obama thought he was buddy, buddy with the Muslim world and now, how dare them turn on him at this time—–he is trying to get re-elected.
It's not that Obama didn't mention God in his Proclaimation—–Obama didn't mention the hijacking of the planes by the Muslims. Obama did say "… worst attack on the American people in history. Thousands of men, women, children perished when mightly towers collasped.. " Well, how about those people in the hijacked airplanes and in the towers when the planes hit before the collapse. Also what about the Pennsylvania wreckage and the Pentagon.
Looks like it is true—-How Soon We Forget. You repeat the past when it is forgotten. September 11, 2012 is now proof of that.
I don't give a rat's patoot whether Obama mentioned God or not. Who cares? And Joel Rivera, he is NOT our "tyran-tin–chief! He's not a tyrant in the least bit. Mentioning God does not make you a good person. The republicans at their convention a few weeks ago were free to mention God all they wanted, but does that make them better people than the democrats at their convention? Of course not.
Barack Obama has more courage, decency, honor, integrity , stature and intelligence in one cell of his body tan th eentire repugnican party, all the right-wing republican idiots in congress and the odious religious right combined!

So what? Does it really matter? People of all faiths died, so did people of no faiths.
We're Americans, isn't that what should take priority? Especially for the President?
I feel that if he did add in Christianity, it'd only fuel the negativity that is going on right now between different religions.
Don't you think that if he made that into a Christian statement, that it'd only make people around the world feel that we really are an extremist Christian nation bent of ridding the world of Islam? I mean, that's what all those anti-Americans already think, we should be fighting that negative stereotype as much as possible, not proving it to be a truth.
For those of you who claim there is no God, or that God failed us as a people and/or a nation; Wake the frick up! This country turned its back on God well before the 9/11 attacks. If you agreed to have Him removed from our schools and everything else American because it might offend the folks who immigrated here to enjoy the freedoms that a Christian based country allowed, well, you reap what you sow. Get off your high horses and take responsibility. After what happened in Lybia and Obama's lies in response, the bastard should be tarred and feathered! We put a terrorist in office and now we are suffering the consequences; serves us right! We screwed ourselves, get over it!
Christians came to America because they were persecuted for their faith – sadly, how quickly we forget the lessons learned. In no way, shape or form was the US created on Christian faith or principles – the founding fathers made it clear that one of the founding principles is the freedom of and FROM religion. Bless all of our soldiers fighting for that religious freedom – Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Agnostic, Atheist ALL faiths (or not) – for they are defending your right to say God, and other's right not to. If someone is looking for a religious based country to live in, try the ones we are fighting against.
There is power and healing when we open ouelesvrs up like this. God’s bright light comes in even brighter. I don’t believe this post will scare anyone. Actually I think you will find the opposite effect. More support. More prayer. I too understand sugar. I have good and bad days with it. Treating God’s temple right is hard work. Praise God He is not finished with us yet. May God be your sweet satisfaction today and every day.Hugs from Colorado.
I love you sister mine, but you know I'm going to give you crap for this one… 1. Obama did not mention God in his speech for two reasons. 1. Many of the people who lost their lives and loved ones on that day were atheist, or of foreign religious beliefs. Don't forget that this was the trade center and quite a few people who died were in fact from out of country doing business within the buildings. and in such a great tragedy for EVERYONE he didn't want to leave anyone out. 2. Obama at least FINALLY declared 9-11 a patriotic day despite HEAVY conflict with the republicans who continued to claim that by proclaiming that day a holiday we were "letting the terrorists win" REALLY? Remembering those we loved and lost is letting other people win? Okay well then I have a problem with just about every other "patriotic holiday" starting with Memorial Day. 3. I have a challenge for you. Post on this site or any public site that you are Mormon and a Christian and see just how many people are dying to tell you you are part of a cult and are not saved. Then post that you believe that gay and lesbian people can go to heaven and see the response you get for that. Romney although Mormon has admitted publicly that he does and will not support gay marriage and if elected will fight to change the constitution. So I hope you don't have any same sex oriented friends or family that you think should be entitled to the same freedoms as you. Even though they are born here, and even though they have fought and died in our military. And finally there is Libya. Romney has stated publicly numerous times that he wants to enter that country and "liberate the people." Under persecution. Sound Familiar? Funny how all these republicans are just dying to infiltrate all these countries that are rich in oil while skirting around the fact that we are STILL in a war in the Middle East that one of theirs began on proven LIES. There were no weapons of mass destruction, and it was even proven then that not only did Iraq NOT support Osama but had made a public stance saying that they wanted nothing to do with him or the problems that he would cause if they aided them. Yet we have lost thousands of American lives there and now are stuck there fighting a war that never should have existed. And I will take exception to anyone calling Obama a terrorist considering the fact that HE went after Osama and actually caught and killed the person truly responsible for 9-11 and then was the president to claim it a day worthy of memorial and reflection for ALL PEOPLE. And now he is the one saying that we need to stay out of the Middle East and take the money that would be put into another senseless military invasion and put it back into our own country for education and healthcare. Healthcare I might add that you and I have personally benefitted from. What happens if one of our children develop an immune deficiency like we have? We know its Hereditary. If the republicans are really so concerned with the lives of people who are being persecuted then why are we not entering Africa. They have been BEGGING for our aid, and the number of children soldiers, children as young as five years old had doubled in the last two years, and in the Congo they are using rape as a weapon, even on infant and toddler girls literally raping them to death! But of course there's no oil there so the republicans could care less. But HEY! Lets invalid Libya where the people have publicly partitioned that they don't want us there, they don't want our aid, and they have no quarrel with us. I'm sorry but as an AMERICAN I find it hypocritical to slam Obama for not mentioning God in a speech when although this country was "founded" by Christians, they were Christians who had left due to persecution in there own home lands… I might also add that this country was TRULY founded by the blood of my people and built on the backs of stolen Africans and enslaved natives. These were not live and let live Godly people. They came here to escape tyranny and then became tyrants themselves. I would like to think that as Christian people now, truly understanding Christ like love we would be proud to have a president in office who tries not to alienate any race or religion on a day where WE ALL lost so much. Muslim-Americans are still suffering from the stereotypes and prejudice from the events of that day. If Obama is a terrorist because he gave a speech that included all Americans, all religions, and asked for all of us as a country not only to remember this day, but to serve one another on this day, and proclaim that though we will remember we will also continue to thrive then I guess that makes me one too, and if that's the qualifications then I would be proud to admit it, although I always thought love and acceptance of all people, races, religious and beliefs as my earthly brothers and sisters even if I don't agree made me a true Christian. Maybe I was wrong? And my last point… For YEARS I heard people complaining because Bush would not recognize 9-11 as a holiday, even writing songs like Have You Forgotten, and sending petition after petition, and then we FINALLY have someone stand up and say that this day should be recognized and those very same people who cried injustice before are now jumping to call him a terrorist? please, please explain to me how that makes ANY kind of sense, because this I would LOVE to hear.
Just to clarify something, My comment was a reply to a comment, I could care less about Obamas speech you guys. Sorry for the confusion.
Silly sister.
