He told young people at Campbell High School the United States has “fallen behind” when it comes to math and science education – explaining why he made it a priority in his administration.
He also said poor American children don’t get “the support they need when they’re very young” and are “already behind” when they enter grammar school.
President Obama also told students that he is “always inspired when I meet with young people because you’re not stuck in some of the old stodgy ideas” one finds in grown-ups.

We have seperate schools for grammar? And what is a priority in the Obama administration outside of bailouts, programs we can't afford, and splitting his free time between complaining about the country he wants so badly to run and pointing fingers at the problems he "inherited". Mr Obama we are all Americans and we didn't just inherit these problems, they've been underlying in our policies for quite a while. Furthermore, he didn't just enter the political scene, he's "highly qualified", unlike all the republican candidates with actual job experience.

This criticism is unfair. It is naive to pretend that one's own country is the best in everything. Obama gave an honest opinion – an opinion shared by many Americans. That's not 'bad-mouthing' America. Recognizing our failings is a first step towards overcoming them.
It's kinda like in a marriage. A couple works out their problems, possibly with a third party (a counselor), but it is toxic for the marriage if any of the participants goes out to friends, family or strangers and airs the dirty laundry. It is not productive, it is not helpful and it makes it that much more likely that the relationship will fall apart. This president has no understanding of that concept because it's all about him and what he wants and thinks.

But what's wrong with stating the truth? Numerous studies over the past few years have shown the steady decline in the quality of public education in the US compared to other countries. The same holds true for science education in the public system.
Loni Eliot 50 years ago we were ranked among the top 5 nations in the world on education, today, we rank 18 from the bottom.
Our education system started going down hill when the Powers That Be took God out of the classroom, (and out of the Pledge of Allegance) in 1962 and then it started racing even faster when good old Jimmy Carter formed the Department of Education in 1979. It started operations in 1980 and our kids have been been taught less and less of the basics, reading, writing, math, sciences, govenrment, etc. And more and more of this liberal crap that they cram down their throats today. Who would have EVER thought our children would go to school and be taught about homosexuality, and even how to correctly put on a CONDOM?

I always find it very interesting to hear a story from other new outlets, then hear what FOX news put as it's headline. What he says is factual true. May I say that Obama was brilliant whilst in Australia, I would encourage you to look at Australian media sites to see a copy of the speech he made to the Parliament of Australia. This was a speech of a true American Patriot and was a reminder to us here in Australia that America still has it's pride and power. It is the 60th anniversary of the ANZUS treaty the formal alliance agreement between our two great countries, this treaty will become more important to the United States in coming years as Australia is one of your greatest supporters and globally positioned very close to China, the next big world player. Australia maintains a good relationship with China and it would be of benefit to america to use our influence to help keep the peace and help initiate economic partnerships. The reason I believe he made comments in regard to the US falling behind was to show a degree of humility whilst in the company of a friend, a friend that has stood by the US at every turn, it is humility that the rest of the world sees as lacking from the US as in recent times some of your weaknesses have been exposed and the world looks to America as a power but also expects it to take responsibility for it's failures like the rest of the world. I look forward to the future growth of our alliance and friendship and the planned stationing of 2500 US marines on our soil. Obama made these remarks in front of a friend not a foe and a country that has stood side to side with the US in every single major conflict since World War 1, we as a country have shown our trust and loyalty.
