BOSTON (AP) — A National Guardsman who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay has sued a Boston landlady, claiming she denied him a chance to rent an apartment because his military service was at odds with her peace activism.
Sgt. Joel Morgan said the two-bedroom apartment in Dorchester was perfect for him. But he claims Janice Roberts told him in a voicemail that renting to him would be a conflict.
Morgan tells the Boston Herald, “It was like a spit in the face.”
The suit filed last week in Suffolk Superior Court alleges Roberts violated state law prohibiting landlords from refusing to rent to veterans.
Roberts denies discrimination. She says 30 people showed an interest in the apartment, Morgan never filled out an application, and there were questions about his ability to pay.

Well this broad forgets that her freedoms were won through war, blood and sacrifice. Yeah, thousands died for her right to act like an ass towards this soldier. Sucks to be her. I would just move elsewhere rather than have a crabby landlord like her.
Weren't you on the gay photographer story arguing ANY private business can discriminate
ANY way it wants?
It only works on issues they disagree with.

And arent you one of those who believes if a person just simply disagrees with the lifestyle, they're still labeled as being discriminatory and homophobic? Homophobia by the way is a fear of people that has been twisted around to mean "fear of gays", how retarded. The difference between these two stories is that photographer running a business didnt feel comfortable being asked to participate in a ceremony that they felt uncomfortable in being a part of as a paid photographer for one, and secondly they simply didnt believe in the lifestyle. You cant force a business owner or anyone for that matter to go against their own convictions, and it would be the same if it was an athiest photographer refusing to photograph a Christian wedding if they feel uncomfortable with it, to which I would say, just look for someone who will do the job for you. Its as simple as that. As for this landlady, I think she would have reacted the same had the soldier been gay. But if you look closely to the last sentence of my post, I said, "I would just move elsewhere rather than have a crabby landlord like her."

"It only works on issues they disagree with." The same can be said about the other side of the ideological spectrum. For example, people on your side of the argument will champion the well being of kids, even getting to the point of insisting on better school nutrition, education, protection from molesters, rapists and bullies, but then the argument takes a different turn when they're still in the womb, they have no protections, no right to life, and no one to fight for their protection or to advocate for their nutrition and other things your side say they champion. As for your side, they claim to support the troops when they're not denegrading them. They claim to support the troops yet they will cut medical benefits, and cut back on the military budget, cutting down troop strength, and discharging troops back into civilian life where they struggle to find work with out any luck, if they're even lucky. The left side isnt exactly immune on picking issues they agree with while disregarding others.
Joel Rivera Before you get too far up on your high horse, sir, let me explain a few things to you. First, my comment was rather generic, and applies to people on both sides of the aisle. I am an independent. I don't look at issues from "left" or "right", "Dem" or "Repub". I look at them for what they are. Yes, I am a champion of the health, safety and well being of kids. I want to stop abortion as much as everyone else. You fail to see that "pro-choice" does not mean "pro abortion". A woman should have a choice, to a point, about abortion. I don't believe in last trimester abortions at all unless serious medical complications are involved. I don't believe a woman who was raped should be forced to bear the product of that violent act. I do not believe that life begins at conception, and that a woman should be able to choose until the fetus becomes viable. I also believe in sex education efforts (NOT abstinence only, which has been proven over and over again not to work) to drastically reduce the number of abortions to the point of virtual elimination. Almost all "pro-choice" people feel the same way. Once the baby is born, the right wants to let it fend for itself, become a part of "the system" if the parents have to give it up. If the baby ends up being gay, the right wants to limit its rights as a human being to enter into a loving committed marital relationship. If it commits serious crimes as a result of being born into a destitute family, the right favors killing it via the death penalty. So much for "right to life" on several levels once it becomes a life.
As for the troops, there are ways to reduce the military budget while still caring for the troops. For example, why are the Repubs pushing for an East Coast missile shield that the pentagon doesn't even want? Save the money! Reduce troops where they aren't needed, keep them where they are needed, train enough to be ready for conflict, but don't cut their benefits. Did you know I am closely related to two separate charities that support the troops and their families – one for when they are stationed overseas, and the other for when they come home and don't have a home to return to. Yeah Joel, I'm all about disregarding the well being of the troops. Things aren't as black and white as you make them. Some of us are able to separate issues from idealogy, and become independent thinkers instead of blind partisan lemmings following one party or the other, both of whom are currently content leading this country toward impending disaster, as long as they are able to keep their own jobs and lining their own pockets. Why don't we do something about that instead, Joel? Get rid of the parties and the self-serving politicians who serve them and whatever faction of the rich elite they are beholden to, whether it be Soros or the Koch brothers and their respective cronies? Why not fight for term limits to eliminate career polticians and encourage those who are actually going to fight for OUR rights as Americans instead of their own to make a living off of our blood, sweat and tears? Single issues don't make for good politics. No politician is going to please everyone. I will (and have) vote for Repub and Dem alike (given no other choices) if i see that they are committed to serving for the betterment of our country, or on the local level, our city, town, local schools, etc. We need to get past labels and narrow the partisan gap in America. Otherwise, the next several years will be more of the same, no matter what party controls the presidency.
I just cannot believe some people. I have no problem if your anti-war, but you should never bring it against the Americans that secure your freedom. Remember Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines make you free. Never forget that.
Don't forget the other people who fight for our freedoms:

I hope he ends-up owning the building! But he won't because he'll get some liberal judge.
Hopefully this will be a reminder to other landlords and owners….
