Morale among Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents is at an all-time low more than a month after the Obama administration announced major changes to the nation’s immigration enforcement policy, according to the head of a national agency representing thousands of agents.
“Morale is in the toilet right now,” said Chris Crane, president of the National ICE Council. “Most of the guys out in the field are just in an uproar.”

President Obama’s policy allows the federal government to use “prosecutorial discretion” to allow younger illegal immigrants to stay in the country and get work permits. Critics called it backdoor amnesty, but the administration said it stops short of granting illegals citizenship.
“They call it discretion but it’s not our discretion,” Crane told Fox News. “We have no discretion.”
Crane said a case involving a veteran ICE agent is a perfect illustration. The agent arrested an illegal who was not a “primary target.” The agent’s superior officers ordered the illegal released – even though he did not meet the criteria listed by the Dept. of Homeland Security.
The officer refused to follow orders and is now facing a three day suspension. The 35-year-old illegal immigrant with ten traffic violations was released.
He pointed to another case in El Paso where an illegal immigrant injured an ICE agent during an attempted escape. Again, Crane said, because the individual was not a priority target, he was released without any charges being filed.
An ICE spokesman did not return calls for comment.
“They’ve got their heads down,” Crane said, referring to ICE agents. “We feel like the administration is against us and not the people who are violating our laws.”
According to a survey conducted by bestplacestowork.org, ICE is ranked 222 out of 240 with a workplace score of 52.5.
Crane said he is not surprised.
“We can’t do anything anymore under these new guidelines,” he said.

When your job is to prevent illegal immigration and your not allowed to do your job, plus you see no help from your own employer to fix the problem, it takes a toll on a person.

The U.S.-Mexican border is 3,465,440 yards long. A man with an M4 can cover 100 yards left and right or 200 yards with just average marksmanship. This would require 17,327 Observation Posts. Running them 24/7 in three shifts would require about 52,000 men. At $250,000 a year to equip and pay each man annually the force would cost about $13 Billion a year. The 2012 budget for the Dept. of Homeland Security is $43 Billion… I think this problem could be solved very easily.
About twenty years ago, my wife and I dined out near a pair of uniformed Border Patrol Agents who had stopped for their dinner break. As we left, I stopped at their table and thanked them for doing an important, difficult job.

I have never understood why the government just looks the other way on this. I do not see any difference from if I called the cops because someone illegally broke into my house and they pulled this catch and release. Could you imagine?

My point, which you seem to have missed entirely, is that it's absolutely ridiculous that we have terms like 'illegal immigrant' in reference to someone who has done nothing wrong but exist. Here, immigrants are viewed as the scum of the earth and what have they done wrong? The irony is that those same people that so easily label others with such demonizing tags probably DON'T have a "pure" ancestry that can be traced down to the US. In fact, most of them probably come from Europe and other parts of the world and the reason they are so privileged today is because their own ancestors came a while back than most.

Really – my family (my wife of 4 years, My 3 year old daughter, and my 2 year old son) has been seperated for almost a year while we attempt to get my wife (a filipino citizen) a legal green card. We choose to follow the laws of this land, even though there is tremendous sacirfice and hardships. Then Obama turns around and spits in our face ( I am a natural born, tax paying citizen) and lets 1.8 million illegals stay here and work here illegally.
I am thankful that my parents tought me value of paitence, perserverance, and respect for the law.
