A widow who lives in a Minnesota apartment complex funded by the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development was told that she could not pray, read her Bible or have private discussions of a religious nature in the commons area of the complex.

The incident allegedly occurred at the Osborne Apartments in Spring Lake Park, Minn. — near Minneapolis.
Ruth Sweats was was having a casual conversation with another resident about the Bible when a social worker interrupted the conversation and told her that she could not talk about religion or the Bible in the commons area.
The social worker then told the widow that the apartment complex receives funding from the federal government and therefore she did not have First Amendment rights because HUD does not allow religious discussions in public areas of the complex.
Sweats contacted Alliance Defending Freedom — a legal advocacy group that immediately sent a letter to the senior living complex urging them to reconsider their actions.
“Government funding should not be misused to ban a widow’s prayers,” said ADF legal counsel Matt Sharp. “The private decision of senior citizens to discuss their faith, read the Bible, and pray is private speech, and no law requires this privately owned independent living facility to restrict the religious expression of these members of America’s greatest generation.”
The apartment complex manager did not return calls seeking comment.
The ADF said Osborne Apartments is free to allow the residents to engage in religious discussion and prayer.”
The letter also explains that “HUD does not prohibit discussion about religion in the facilities to which it provides funding” and that federal court precedent has established that “simply because the government provides a benefit with public funds does not mean that all ‘mention of religion or prayers’ must be whitewashed from the use of the benefit.”
Alliance Defending Freedom also suggested their actions may have violated federal and state anti-discrimination laws.
“The right thing to do out of respect for the senior citizens—many of whom fought or saw their spouses fight in wars to defend our nation and the freedoms upon which it is built—is to remove the ban on religious expression in the commons area…,” the letter states. “We hope that this letter will clear up these issues and that you will do away with this terrible policy.”

The memo puts all control in the hands of Admiral McRaven – the “timing, operational decision making and control” are all up to McRaven. So the notion that Obama and his team were walking through every stage of the operation is incorrect. The hero here was McRaven, not Obama. And had the mission gone wrong, McRaven surely would have been thrown under the bus.

Charles Woods, the father of Tyrone Woods, a former Navy SEAL killed in the Libya terror attack last month, sent a direct message to President Barack Obama about courage and cowardice.
On the “Geraldo at Large” show on Fox News, Woods said: “Remember this Mr. President, my son and the others died heroes. And it’s better to die the death of a hero than it is to live the life of a coward.
Woods said on Friday that U.S. officials who denied a request for help while the diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya was under attack "are murderers of my son.”.

Woods’ son was part of a small team at a CIA annex near the consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack. Stevens, Woods and two other Americans died in the attack.
Fox News reported last week that a request from the CIA annex for backup was denied by U.S. officials during the Sept. 11 assault.
"They refused to pull the trigger," Woods said. "Those people who made the decision and who knew about the decision and lied about it are murderers of my son."
Tyrone Woods and others at the CIA annex ignored orders by their superiors to stand down and instead went to the consulate, Fox News reported.
"I wish that the leadership in the White House had the same level of moral courage and heroism that my son displayed," Charles Woods said.

The Petition
On November 5, 2009, after consultation with, and inspired by, al Qaeda terrorist leader Anwar al-Awlaki, Army Major Nidal Hasan attacked soldiers and civilians at Fort Hood, Texas. Hasan's attack, the most lethal terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11, left 14 Americans dead, more than 30 wounded by gunshots, and many more injured.
The U.S. government knew Hasan was a serious security risk who sought religious sanction from Awlaki for suicide attacks that killed innocents, yet the government was concerned more with protecting Hasan's career than with protecting the men and women who served with him. Evidence from a bipartisan Congressional investigation and an independent report commissioned by the FBI demonstrates that Hasan's attack was terrorism by any reasonable definition, including the one used by the Department of Defense (DoD). Yet DoD stubbornly maintains that the attack was merely 'workplace violence' to avoid responsibility for the government's role in enabling Hasan's attack and to protect the officials who closed their eyes to the threat. As a result, the victims continue to be denied the recognition and benefits they are rightfully due.
Support the brave men and women of Fort Hood, and add your voice to this petition, to ask the Administration to stop the charade and recognize the shooting as the act of terrorism it was, to hold accountable the high level officials responsible for the policies that caused this attack to prevent future failures, and to provide the soldiers, victims and their families with appropriate recognition, including Purple Hearts, and fair compensation for all of their injuries.
