An elderly California couple has been subjected to violent threats, vandalism and a fake Molotov cocktail because they erected a pro-Mitt Romney sign on their front yard.

Gene Liboff, 78, of Woodland Hills, Calif., told Fox News the latest incident occurred last week when someone left a baby food canister with a wick attached to it – next to the sign. The bottle was filled with liquid.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Dept. confirmed to Fox News that the incident occurred. The fire department and bomb squad were summoned – but the device turned out to be a fake. No arrests have been made.
Liboff said their homemade sign has been destroyed six times.
“My wife is a very persistent person,” he told Fox News. “She wasn’t going to give in. She kept resurrecting the sign.”
One day, his wife, Dee, was in the front yard repairing the sign, when she was threatened by a passerby.
“Somebody came by while my wife was fixing up the sign and said, ‘you’re dead,’” he said. “We are surrounded by liberals.”
Their story was first reported on the Godfather Politics website.
The Liboffs are members of the Tea Party movement – and said they are not about to be scared off by the attacks.
“We believe in free speech and we feel that it’s our right to put the sign up and say what we believe,” he said. “We don’t like being told we can’t do that. That’s what they’re trying to do – shut us down.”
“My wife is strongly religious and she believes God is on our side and that what will be will be.”
He did say that some neighbors have been sympathetic.
“One lady said she doesn’t believe the way we do – but she believes in our right to say what we want to say,” he said.

You know, I see signs and bumper stickers for Obama and I abhor the current president but I would never touch someone else's sticker or sign no matter how much I dislike Obama. I live in Memphis. I had a sign in my yard in support of George Flinn (Republican) running for Congress. It has been stolen or destroyed 3 times. I live in a predominantly black, liberal neighborhood. I am terrified to put a Romney/Ryan sign in my yard. I have children and I'm at work all day. I'm scared that I will come home to a burned down house or my house will be the victim of a "drive by" at night. The people who live in my neighborhood are flat out crazy. I have a gun and I know how to use it but trust me, in this city and in my case, I would go to jail for murder even though they came into my yard, on my property. It's just not right. You will get killed in Memphis for supporting anything Republican. Ready to move out of Memphis and ready to move the Obama's out of the White House next month!

I completely understand and feel for this couple. I live in an over the top liberal area and fear the retribution that would occur if I were to use my freedom of speech and display a bumper sticker or sign in my yard for Romney/Ryan.
Yes, I could push the issue, but then when there is damage to my car or house I would have to pay to have it fixed. I have read too many stories and seen evidence of what happens when liberals disagree with someone who wants to display a sign or bumper sticker that disagrees with their viewpoints. I give these people kudos for sticking to their beliefs and values!
It always amazes me that liberals preach "tolerance" yet fail to give it back, they talk about "freedom of speech" yet only when they are the ones demanding it: for example the story about the wall of freedom at the school where all the students were allowed to write whatever they wanted on the wall without fear of retribution…yet days later when someone wrote F*** Obama a teacher then became outraged and told them to remove it and the police were called – they were forced to remove it. When signs were purchased for the subways in NY asking for the support of Israel a liberal was there with her spray paint defacing the sign saying it "offended her and she had the freedom of speech to express that" yet where was the person's right who paid for the signs? Where is the outrage from the left when these things occur? People put up crosses and here comes the ACLU and atheists out of the woodwork demanding it be taken down..where is the persons rights to display it? Why is it okay to take anothers hard earned money and give it to another, yet expect those same people who get the benefit of others hard work to show proof of citizenship and show proof that they are actually looking for work etc.while getting that money…that's wrong?
It would appear that freedom of speech and tolerance are a one way street. As I said in a reply to another post: When a person expects tolerance, yet fails to give tolerance in return its called tyranny.

These vandals are idiots, and it would be wrong to say their actions represent a cross section of all voting Democrats. I'm a Democrat, but will be changing my vote this year due to the state of the Nation…and not some fool's personal, angry agenda. We are having the same problem here in Texas. We office out of a house in the Heights (hippie town near downtown Houston) and my boss (one of those guys who Built It!) posted signs in the yard against Obama and they keep getting vandalized. But we have a whole stack of them to keep putting up (and a couple of CHLs).

Phil, You obviously have your eyes closed. Where I live, my friends who are conservative are afraid to tell anyone they are voting for Romney or put a sticker or sign up for fear of retribution. This is an extremely liberally crazy community where Republicans are ridiculed at parties and those who are conservative are quiet. During this elections those few who have braved putting a sign up…well, it has disappeared on many occasions within a half of an hour. That is not right. All Americans should be able to express their opinions without being treated poorly or property damaged.

Here in Tampa I work in a Romney campaign office and there has been a rash of stolen Romney signs. Fortunately the victims come back in a replace them with yet another. There is something crass about Obama supporters and liberals in general that always try to shut up their opposition. For the last 3 weeks on Friday after 5pm we also go out to the busy street corner and wave Romney signs & American flags, 1st week we had about 20 people, the 2nd week about 50 people and last Friday there were 70 people participating. No manner of "fingers" and other opposition will stop the enthusiasm our people have! Worth it is the great toots and waves it generates.
Getting a Romney-Ryan yard sign is easy. Simply call your local GOP/Republican party headquarters and request that a sign be delivered to your street address.

This is a little weird. I live two blocks north of Woodland Hills and no one has shown any interest in the Romney sign I've had in the yard since early July. A little disappointing, I bought two expecting vandals. I took it as a reading of the lack of interest in Obumble this year.
Free speech does not exist in California. One does not publicly question groupthink in public if one does not like to be pushed, spit on (literally), harassed, and called vile things. If you don't believe me, go to Berkeley or San Francisco, downtown, wearing a Romney T shirt and see what happens. I grew up in Cali, I can tell you, it isn't just people in the street, it goes all the way through the system. The people who watch the polling places to be sure there is no shenanigans are all activist progressives. If you are registered R, you are very likely to have your ballot invalidated because of something "improper" (this happened to me more than once). If you complain to the county or city government, you face more of the same people. California is a monolithic progressive liberal machine. It is what they want to make the rest of America into. It is not a free country, people are afraid to speak. This is their ideal. I really think people need to go visit and investigate, then go back home and think about it really seriously.
