The Jim Henson Company has announced it will no longer allow Chick-fil-A to use its toys after the company’s president spoke out publicly in favor of traditional marriage. Meanwhile, supporters of the restaurant chain believe the attacks are being orchestrated by militant homosexual activists.

Chick-fil-A had been offering Jim Henson  “Creature Shop” toys in its kids meals, but will no longer do so, according to a statement posted on The Jim Henson Company Facebook page.

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with then on any future endeavors,” the statement read.

CEO Lisa Henson instructed the company to donate the payment they received from Chick-fil-A to the gay rights organization GLAAD.

The move comes after Boston’s mayor vowed to block the Atlanta-based company from opening a restaurant in his city.

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston,” Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Globe. “You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion.”

Except, that is, when it comes to Chick-fil-A.

The restaurant chain, which is privately owned, stirred controversy last week when company president Dan Cathy told Baptist Press they are “guilty as charged” in support of what he called the biblical definition of the family.”

The company has more than 1,600 stores nationwide – but only two in Massachusetts. They are reportedly trying to open a store in Boston near the famed Freedom Trail.

Mayor Menino said he will do everything in his power to stop the business from opening.

“If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult – unless they open up their policies,” he told the Boston Herald. “That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said the actions taken by Boston’s mayor should not be surprising.

“This is really outrageous when you see this is the train that follows same sex marriage,” Perkins told Fox News. “This idea of the loss of religious freedom – the freedom of speech — and it’s on perfect display in Boston with the intolerance of this mayor.”

Perkins noted that Americans have overwhelmingly endorsed the traditional definition of marriage – 32 times in 32 states.

“Chick-fil-A is in the mainstream, he said. “The mayor of Boston is in the minority.”

“It’s about forcing Americans who do not agree with this agenda to comply and if a business dare step outside of the PC lines they will be attacked just as we are seeing Chick-fil-A being attacked,” Perkins added.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of Christians across the country are defending the company – many posting messages of support on Chick-fil-A’s Facebook page.

Fox News Channel host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said the company has come under attack from militant homosexuals and is being “smeared by vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry from the left.”

“The militant homosexual advocates have launched an all out assault on Dan Cathy and Chick-fil-A,” he said. “The attempts to hurt or destroy Chick-fil-A are nothing short of economic bullying.”

Huckabee is calling for a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on Aug. 1.

“Let’s affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, August 1,” Huckabee said.

Why is it unacceptable for gay and gay-friendly people to speak out against and boycott Chick-Fil-A when it is not unacceptable for Christians to speak out against and boycott J. C. Penney?

    • Joanne Ciocys /

maybe i'm wrong, but I don't recall any business supportive of gay "marriage" being refused entry into a city because of that support. And i haven't seen/heard public figures calling for their death and the death of their customers, either.

    • I've never even heard of a boycott of J C Penny, but if anyone is doing that, it's stupidity.

  2. What about all the protesting The Home Depot, JC Penney, and Target for being pro-gay? Isn't that "nothing short of economic bullying?" Seems a bit one sided to me.

  3. You are not allowed to believe what you want anymore in this country, you have to conform to the government edict and approve of all freak shows.

  4. What the heck ever happened to the right to free speech all the hippies shield themselves with when they have nothing good to say about hardworking Americans? Why is it that free speech only applies to those who support the liberal ideals and that government should have any say in who gets a buisness license in Boston based upon the strict conservative ideals of the president of this private company. If you are one of those people that go around offending others while hiding behind your right to free speech and you AREN'T one who has ever served in the military, do the right thing and don't attack this company for simply voicing their religious beliefs.

    • Oh and by the way I had two of their spicy chicken sandwiches for lunch today and they rocked. Plan on doing it for lunch a few more times this week.

Isn't saying your going to block or make permits and licensing very hard to get unless you change your policies extortion? And isn't extortion a federal crime?

    • That is what I was thinking. The Mayor just told the entire world, "I'm gonna make sure they don't open a store here, permits will be hard to get for them…unless they change their policy". Humm….that sound likes discrimination/extortion to me, and on public record…can you say lawsuit???

  6. Being black, left-handed or being gay is just as natural. It is a sometimes rare occurrence to fall in Love and to hold that person in your heart and be loved in return… it is something that should be celebrated! If it’s between two guys or two girls — all the better. It takes even more courage to defend that LOVE!

The evil writings in Leviticus 18:22 … against gays – depict: “P” … “priestly rules” & expanded by the pope; homophobes and religious frauds … to attack the gay community and never meant to apply to the public — but to priests. Leviticus was written long after Moses — 600BC.

There is no scientific evidence to prove any of the cross related bogus elements of christianity and other religions. Our early human ancestors; on this earth … go back more than 6 million years … 5,996,000 years before the Greeks, Romans and the Jews. Christianity is basically a 2012 year old fictional cult.
In the year 300 AD when Emperor Constantine, who to some was the first pope; went on to fabricate & market Christianity!

It is written; so therefore it shall be? We are the chosen people? Such a wicked fantasy. To see the religious lunatics manipulate government and our lives is shameful.
Christianity is a fantasy; which turned out to be one of the most hateful & evil concoctions ever perpetrated on the world.

  7. Tell them to take that cross and shove it where the sun don't shine and pay their taxes along the way before they take that cross down forever with its final station; extinction.
The Vatican basically supported Hitler and religion is responsible for more corruption and violence in the world. Pope Ratzinger was involved in the Nazi youth. The Pope with his blatant witchcraft related to the bible and its hateful beliefs; tries to rule with extreme prejudice against a world … that may fall victim to religions' absolute evil. Many theologians state quite correctly that the birth; crucifixion; resurrection and other elements of christianity actually didn’t even happen! The pope is running a bigger fraud than Madoff’s $20 billion ripoff. Today’s evangelical extremists are like the nazis who cast others into ovens & are actually supremacists – who practice their bogus hocus pocus – and are trying to suppress and deprive others of their happiness and their legal rights in an open and proud society.
Einstein stated in a letter recently auctioned that the bible was a collection of primitive legends. He said believing in God was childish and he as a Jew is no different than another person and are not chosen by God.

  8. I love Chick-Fil-A! What is wrong with him saying what he honestly believes? Everyone has a right to what they believe.

    • …You only are supposed to have that right if you're an Atheist on the left and support the Muslims….Christians will always get the cold shoulder from retards like them….

    • Jennifer Burr /

well, I was gonna say…except for Christians.

  9. My 'NAUGHTY' list is full of these gueers, phags, perverts and such. May you all have a rotten Christmas…

Mayor of Boston says, “Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion.” An “open city” yet the Mayor is discriminating against Chick-fil-a?

The Mayor was further quoted as saying, “If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult – unless they open up their policies. That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.” I guess freedom of religion and freedom of speech don’t belong on the Mayor's “Freedom” Trail. I guess we can join the Mayor on his “Freedom Trail” as long as we think like him and adhere to his political view points.

There is a bigot in this “controversy” and as usual it’s not the person or company being accused of bigotry but the intolerant liberal behind the accusation. If the Mayor, liberals, and militant homosexuals believed in freedom and our Constitution then they would have taken the approach that we can disagree without being disagreeable. As typical, the most intolerant among us are liberals. Liberals want to force Americans who do not agree with their agenda to comply through political, verbal and economic attacks. When are Americans going to wake up and stop voting liberals (regardless of political party) into office.

I sure don't remember Chik-fil-a ever saying they wouldn't serve gay people….I believe they just said they believed in the biblical teachings that say marriage is one man and one woman…..where is there any discrimination????…Does the resturant offer weddings on their menu now????….Geez….I missed that I guess….Seems to me if the libbies don't like it,don't go there….good grief.

    • Mary Lou Dell /

I agree. They don't have to eat there but I'm sure there are people in that city that would like to patron "chick-Fila"

Lincoln is rolling over in his grave…..

  26. Why are the people that are screaming the loudest for tolerance always the ones that are the most intolerant of an opposing or contrary view? I applaud Chick-fil-A for standing up for what they believe and I will discontinue any purchase of Jim Henson or Muppet items until they change their intolerant discrimination of an opposing viewpoint…….by the way, Boston is no longer on my list of places to visit!

    • Remember, the people screaming "All power to the people!" generally mean "All power to the people currently screaming 'All power to the people!'"

I agree with Chick fil a.. Ill serve you in my establishment, but I don't have to Like you or Agree with you and certainly not support you.

  30. I think ill have me a Chik-fil-A sandwich. I would have got one yesterday but they are closed on Lords Day so their employees can go to church if they want.

    • It's nice that they give their employees CHOICE isn't it?

    • Your correct its their business to run to give their employees that choice. It's their choice to believe in God and a moral stance with their beliefs and it is their choice to run a faith based business. Popeyes is also another Christian faith based run company i would imagine their CEOs have the same stance. I respect any persons belief but I do not have to like it or allow it into a business I run or my personal life. This man stated his religious beliefs and those who do not agree with it are now doing what they accused him of? It is sad that they dont practice what they want. It is not GLADD and LGTB that are being attacked it is Christian values. I dont care what orientation you swing I dont want it in my face Gay Staight or whatever. Marraige in my faith is a sacrament between a man and a women.

  31. Why is it if I disagree with same sex marriage its hate? Why is it all right for gays and their supporters to raise all kinds of hell because I disagree with them but that's fine? Who is Chick-fil-A discriminating against I haven't heard of them refusing service to anyone or not giving them a job? The CEO just stated his opinion. This is what happens when gay's try to make their behavior seem normal when its not they try to force it on you and bully people.

  32. PLEASE CORRECT SPELLING IN PARAGRAPH 2…..do not wish to partner with then (THEM is what it should be). Thank you…

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with then on any future endeavors,” the statement read.

  33. Boston! Menino has got to go! He's dangerous to your freedom of religion and speech. Do your job as citizens and get him out of office!

  34. OK, I have a serious question for all of you civic minded folks that say it is not the governments place or right to tell a company that they cannot open a store in their city.

Where were/are you when local governments vote to ban WalMart from opening a store in their city? Should they be able to do that, or should WalMart be able to open a store anywhere they want?

There are any number of other examples I could use but I'll leave it at just the one. It is enough to test my hypothesis.

  35. Let's put gay men in short shorts dancing and waving rainbow flags in every Chik-fil-A in Boston. Would that make that fat tongued boob Menino happy?

  36. I DON'T CARE WHAT GAYS DO BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. I CARE EVEN LESS WHERE THEY EAT. WHO NEEDS THEM?

  37. Dennis Scheminske /

Fascinating. Protestors of the construction of a Muslim mosque only blocks from the 9-11 site are rebuffed and told it is against the constitution to stop these people from building anywhere they want. Fast forward to Boston. Protestors of the construction of a legitimate business – Chick-Fillet – within the city limits of Boston are hailed…the company demonized and the mayor claims he will do whatever he can to block the business from doing business anywhere in "his" city. Oh, no…there's no religious bigotry here.

    • So… Are you speaking out against bigotry?

    • Dennis Scheminske /

Absolutely against bigotry, cuz…and also against hypocrites…but not against wisdom and discernment.

    • I feel that those speaking out are only doing the same thing. I've re-thought the whole Chick-fil-a thing and I'm not sure I'm against the guy. If that's what he believes then he was just saying what he believes, even though some people, me included, disagree with him. If we think it's so terrible then we can choose to not eat there. I think the whole reaction to him is because he's in a powerful position and therefore influential, so those who have strong and opposing beliefs feel they must react in a manner that equals Cathy's perceived influence.

  38. So does any company wanting to open up a store in Boston have to have an opinion on "Same Sex Marriage"? Will this question be added to the permit application? Wonder what McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's opinion might be? This sure opens one giant can of worms doesn't it?

  40. David Burris /

"Militant homosexual activists" are not orchestrating attacks on Chick-fil-A, people are just responding to Mr. Cathy's own words.

BTW, being tolerant does not mean tolerating people who want to take your rights away from you and who want to contribute corporate profits to groups that want to take your rights away from you. That would be called being stupid.

  42. At no time did the Chick-fil-A CEO say that gay customers would be turned away nor that gay employees would be dismissed. He simply explained his belief. The only intolerance in this situation is by those who disagree with the CEO's right of freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Let them eat beef!

    • Sandra Pruden /

I love Chik-fil-A and am in there all the time. I have never been asked about my political views before I was served. People call me a liberal democrat so I figure he has as much right to his opinion as I do to mine. I will continue to eat chicken until he asks my political views and refuses to serve me. After all, everybody's money is green!

  43. The mayor of Boston is setting the city up for a lawsuit witch will cost tax payers plenty to defend his stand witch is not the city's job to refuse a business because of there personnel believes on marriage. I'm sure there are plenty of people out of work in Boston that would love chance for a job at chick-fil. It is these things that our government does that makes it hard for businesses to grow in this country any more they tie our hands and come up with the most ridiculous rules and regulations not to mention the fees they charge just to open. So I hope Boston refuses Chick=fil a license then I hope chick =fil sues the crap out of them and there mayor.

  44. I have to tolerate gay beliefs. Why can't they in turn tolerate my straight beliefs. I am sick of hearing who is bedding who. Who's gay and………………….WHO CARES.

    • Kelly Calder /

No you have to tolerate and treat homosexuals as people – or you should. I guess you don't "have" to. They don't want you to agree with their sexual orientation just as I'm sure they don't agree with heterosexuals orientations. They just get tired of being treated like pieces of crap by certain Christians and others. They don't talk about who they have sex with anymore than heterosexuals do. I mean, really we heterosexuals "flaunt" our "lifestyle" in front of everyone else. Showing off our kids, our spouses/significant others for example. Why can't homosexuals do the same and be proud of their families and their partners?

  45. Discrimination! How Christian like of you all. How do you think Jesus would stand on this?

  46. Kari Bernard /

So, as a Christian should I now boycott the Muppets and Boston (where my husband is from) because of the intolerance they are showing? When will it stop? Since when does admitting to religious beliefs qualify as "hatred"? Cathy never said he hated gays. People need to stop putting words and intent into his mouth for their own agenda.

For me, i feel sometimes….. when someone calls me a name….that i want to stare them down and say 'Yeah…so what…what are you gonna do about it…huh…" and in that moment is when the fear they want to put on you…is thrown right back in their face….in the most peaceful loving way…of course….you feel me?…and even I am not always the strongest person to do this either…but there have been times in my life when it needed to be done….

    • Eric Garner /

100% agreed. :) I hope this sets a trend and shows the wider corporate world the power of the pissed-off customer. Businesses that willfully marginalize any substantial chunk of the buying public can and should be punished in the wallet.

    • If we can stop Grinder in a Nation like GB….i certainly think we can stop CFA!

    • Chick-fil-a isn't in your bedroom unless you buy a sandwich and bring it there. If you owned a business, would you think everyone would ban it just because you're pro-gay? They are allowed to have an opinion. They are not in your business.
