The Jim Henson Company has announced it will no longer allow Chick-fil-A to use its toys after the company’s president spoke out publicly in favor of traditional marriage. Meanwhile, supporters of the restaurant chain believe the attacks are being orchestrated by militant homosexual activists.

Chick-fil-A had been offering Jim Henson  “Creature Shop” toys in its kids meals, but will no longer do so, according to a statement posted on The Jim Henson Company Facebook page.

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with then on any future endeavors,” the statement read.

CEO Lisa Henson instructed the company to donate the payment they received from Chick-fil-A to the gay rights organization GLAAD.

The move comes after Boston’s mayor vowed to block the Atlanta-based company from opening a restaurant in his city.

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston,” Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Globe. “You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion.”

Except, that is, when it comes to Chick-fil-A.

The restaurant chain, which is privately owned, stirred controversy last week when company president Dan Cathy told Baptist Press they are “guilty as charged” in support of what he called the biblical definition of the family.”

The company has more than 1,600 stores nationwide – but only two in Massachusetts. They are reportedly trying to open a store in Boston near the famed Freedom Trail.

Mayor Menino said he will do everything in his power to stop the business from opening.

“If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult – unless they open up their policies,” he told the Boston Herald. “That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said the actions taken by Boston’s mayor should not be surprising.

“This is really outrageous when you see this is the train that follows same sex marriage,” Perkins told Fox News. “This idea of the loss of religious freedom – the freedom of speech — and it’s on perfect display in Boston with the intolerance of this mayor.”

Perkins noted that Americans have overwhelmingly endorsed the traditional definition of marriage – 32 times in 32 states.

“Chick-fil-A is in the mainstream, he said. “The mayor of Boston is in the minority.”

“It’s about forcing Americans who do not agree with this agenda to comply and if a business dare step outside of the PC lines they will be attacked just as we are seeing Chick-fil-A being attacked,” Perkins added.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of Christians across the country are defending the company – many posting messages of support on Chick-fil-A’s Facebook page.

Fox News Channel host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said the company has come under attack from militant homosexuals and is being “smeared by vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry from the left.”

“The militant homosexual advocates have launched an all out assault on Dan Cathy and Chick-fil-A,” he said. “The attempts to hurt or destroy Chick-fil-A are nothing short of economic bullying.”

Huckabee is calling for a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on Aug. 1.

“Let’s affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse by simply showing up and eating at Chick-fil-A on Wednesday, August 1,” Huckabee said.

So the attacks on Starbucks, JC Penney, General Mills, Home Depot, Ford, etc must be radical militant Evangelical actions, huh? The dissonance. It burns.

Garish gays siege sensational chicken shop. Well, I gave it my best shot.

    • Joanne Ciocys /

I'm not crazy about boycotts, simply because the employees who have no control and no voice in and over these corporate matters are the ones who suffer from them most. That said, boycotts have been effective at times and are used by both sides. Incitement to violence and barring a business from doing legal business because of the religious convictions or political leanings of the owners of the business are different and clearly wrong.

    • Michael W Cucinotta /

Joanne Ciocys No one is calling for violence against Chick-fil-A. But if a business meet the standards set by anti-discrimination laws and regulations in a city, then it has no businesses setting up shop.

    • Funny, I work at Home Depot, used to work at JCP and the local Starbucks barisitas know me so well, they even gave me a nickname- Ms. Home Depot because every time I go to work I am tempted to go to Starbucks). But I am for traditional marriage. If people really do boycott these places over gay rights issues, that's extreme and non-biblical. The Bible never said to oust anyone for being gay. It says it's wrong, but it never said to be rude to them! Christians, it's time to show God's love. It's like the song from Casting Crowns- No one knows what we're for only when we're against when we judge the wounded. The gay community lashes out against us because they feel so hurt by our rudeness. Let's show them God's love! If not, how do we expect them to ever truly know what we stand for? To know the true God?

Also, in this economy, a boycott of any business really hurts more than it helps. I agree with Joanne, why hurt the employees? They're just trying to feed their families.

  2. this is funny, when h8 based groups and organizations play the "victim card" when they have blood on their hands. What Fox News, Chick-A-Fila, and AFA are Malicious groups killing my youth and using there money infused international hate complex (Uganda) causing genocide to my people. How do you, expect my movement who has been attacked, murdered and brutalized since the begging of time, to react and sit down, and hear you folks say we are sinful, and going to hell? cause of some book wrote by men, and a deity that's imaginary. You folks are silly, and yes we are civil more civil than most of you.

I'm gay, and the only thing I really care about here is the actual food I get from Chic-Fil-A. Bigotry and tolerance and all that nonsense aside, a chicken sandwich sounds DELICIOUS right now.

  6. David Thompson /

Everyone is entitled to believe what they chose to and shouldn't have to be afraid to speak their minds. This mayor obviously doesn't understand that. Trying to force an entire restaurant chain out of Boston just because he believes something different.

    • Makes no sense, that company knows Chic-fil-a is Christian and how Christians view marriage. Why is he surprised?

    • Howard Aubrey /

And yet, homosexuality is never even addressed y their lord Jeebus!

    • Mary Thompson-Huston /

Anyone who blatantly and publicly bashes homosexuality is wrong. that is what I believe and I think our God believes it as well. I feel very passionately about this, David, therefore I had to comment. love you, I think of you often.

    • Mary Thompson-Huston /

I for one will also boycott Chick-fil-A. Homosexuality is not a choice, they were born that way, from our God. I am passionate about Gay Rights, I have seen too many people harmed physically and mentally just because of their sexual orientation. I am always curious to know what homophobes would do, or how they would feel, if one of their children or grandchildren were born Gay?

    • Mary Thompson-Huston /

David – love your comment that everyone is entitled to believe what they chose to believe. Being Gay is not a choice, it is simply how you were born. I went to the website you posted and was appalled to see some of the comments bashing homosexuality. I would be so ashamed to see one of my loved ones post such hate.

    • Mary Thompson-Huston /

    • Not trying to cause an argument, but Jesus says in Matt. 15:19 "For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

    • Mary Thompson-Huston /

Not trying to cause an argument, but I find it very offensive that you would throw a bible quote at me as if it was law. We are all allowed to think for ourselves and within our own hearts. I do not need to be preached to regarding my beliefs. Agree to disagree.

    • Sorry Mary, I should've mentioned that it was for @Howard. Cause he said that it wasn't addressed by Jesus, and I just wanted to let him know that it is. My apologies for the confusion.

    • David Thompson /

I posted this because I see a double standard when it comes to the issue. This mayor calls his city "open" and "on the forefront of inclusion," yet he's lobbying to ban an entire restaurant chain from Boston because the people that run it merely gave their opinions on the matter. He's all for equality but doesn't want to include anyone that thinks differently than he does. This isn't about whether being gay is a choice or not. Personally, I believe that people are not born gay but that it is a choice(choice being a rather broad term), and I should be free to express that without having to worry about people banning me from their city.

Chick-fil-A doesn't raise money to stop gay marriage or support any movement against it. It's just the opinion of the company's president. And I'll bet you he was cornered into giving it. Why do all these business figure-heads have to give their opinion on marriage anyways? What in the world do fast food and clothing stores have to do with it?

    • ^ right on david! The only thing that he mentioned was he believed that marriage should be between a man and a woman. period.. He never said he hates gays, never said a word on if one was born gay or one was gay by choice. it is the same situation as that miss america model. for simply stating that she believed that marriage was a covenant between a man and a woman she was thrown under the bus. the media grabbed any story about her past and posted it for the world to see. Simply stating her opinion caused humiliation for her entire future. If she/ or one mentioned that they support gay marriage, they would be held as a true inspiration.

Just last year, a gold medal gymnist was taken off the US board just because he donated money to his church ministry who does not support gay marriage. The outcry was so large that he was asked to resign from a position in which he would represent all of the United States gymnists at the 2012 olympics

    • Kyle, whats really impressive is that he is 49 and was about to compete in the Olympics

    • Mary Thompson-Huston /

Thank you, Jordan. I really appreciate you telling me that. Maybe I shouldn't have assumed your response was directed to me. My passion for Gay (Equal) Rights overtook my emotions, again.

    • Wow…Now shut up and go see Batman!

    • "Everyone" go see it!

    • Mary Thompson-Huston /

Jordan already has, and Rachel is actually getting ready to leave to see it. Uncle Gary and I will see it soon. Have you seen it, Paul?

    • David Thompson /

      It was reeeallly good.

    • Mary Thompson-Huston /

That's what Jordan said, I can't wait to see it!

    • No but Jesus mentions it Howard.

    • I worked for Chick-Fil-A for a number of years. They are one of the few companies to even have morals. They were founded on christian principals and they cant change that. They have an example to set, and would offend too many close minded christians everywhere and more within the christian community. That would not be a good move for them, changing what they believe? Truett Cathy is in his 90's. He grew up in a different time, and you can't expect an old man to change his view on something, christain or not. A chicken sandwhich is neither gay nor straight, so eat mor chikin

  7. Geroncio Bonito Copiozo /

I support chik-fil-a. The reason why is because why can't a company come out and put its stance that was once the norm but isn't? Not every company is run or operated by the same people. Now, support a stance like what chik-fil-a said make me an ignorant hillbilly? Not to my knowledge (though I am an Asian redneck). It makes me what is me.

  8. Kelly Calder /

What the hell is a "militant" homosexual? I have heard these spoken of (mostly on Todd Starnes "articles" and their comments) but have yet to meet a homosexual who is also "militant."

    • Howard Aubrey /

      Kelly,

Those are the ones who insist on being treated as equals, as our laws dictate. It's kind of like an 'uppity n*gger', that refuses to sit in the back of the bus or a woman who calls the police when her husband beats her and the kids….

These people are a conservatives nightmare…..

I like facts. This link is from the focus on family site which is cited as one of the boogeyorgs. I wad looking to see whst they thought about gays and this article came up. Its a parenting article, what to look for if your child says they might be gay. After reading, my take away was 1.) This can and does happen as a biological function, and if this is it then they have counselors to help the child feel better about who they are. The rest of the article talks about not rushing yo conclusion about being gay (no lifestyle choice should be rushed into). See what you think.

    • Follow the money. They led the charge to literally take my rights away. Plain and simple as that. They can paint rainbows and unicorns on their website, but it doesn't change the fact that they funded prop 8… The worst part is, they had to lay off a bunch of their own people after wasting that money, because they chose to use their funding to spread discrimination rather than supporting their constituents and the programs they needed within their organization. Like I said, it's anyone's choice to support FOTF or Chick-fil-a, but you like facts as much as I do and these jokers are too busy meddling in my family and telling me how to live my life. So they don't get my money anymore and they don't get funding from groups who support equal rights. P.S. I think their website did some "updating" to lessen the embarrassing blow they took after prop 8. http://coloradoindependent.com/21271/focus-on-the-family-vastly-outpaced-mormon-spending-on-proposition-8

    • Anyway, I'm not going to get into a pissing match about this. You can feel how you want and support who you want, but just know that it does affect people's lives. It's not abstract. It's real. I will end with the ridiculousness of the title of the article. Militant Gays? As if we're the ones forcing our way into other people's homes, telling them how to live and saying they can't love their husband or wife… Who's really the militant ones?

    • Chris Br /

      Thanks, for weighing in, Troy.

    • Chris Br /

They might be talking about things like this, I dunno.

    • Chris Br /

Here's the kind of people they are from my perspective, and this isn't press. It's fact. Last year as many of my FB feinds know, I was hospitalized in Jax with a life threatening issue. I was in ICU for 11 days. My little family went to find food, they had been with me since i was admitted (like 24 hours past) and went to go eat. They went to chik fil a becuase they like the food and it was close to the hospital. Thier manager was on counter and looked at my spouse and our son, and said "I know that you are in very hard times right now. Let us know what we can do, and we would like you to have some meals here. he gave them some cards. Chik fil A, and bank of America were two branches in Florida that helped a scared wife from texas and her son take care of business while Iwas in ICU. I stand by them as I do the people of Jacksonville, who got us through it, and back to texas. Maybe you will understand, maybe you won't.

  10. Are only the gays allowed an opinion. What happened to Freedom of Speech?

  11. Chick is company run by ungodly people….I'd rather starve than eat this food….and the saddest part of all is that the Chick people would love to see me starve….the Belly Monster U.S.

The greatest part of this story is that, with Chick-Fil-A's high-fat, saturated, high-cholesterol calorie-laden "food", all these Christian bigots rallying around their bigotry will be dying younger from heart disease in the near future.

I for one plan to support Chick-fil-A and eat there regularly, which I have not done in the past. I appreciate a company that will stand for God's truth and not give in to the intolerant bigotry and bullying of an immoral, ungodly sodo-fascist crowd who are only heaping coals upon their own heads against the Day of Judgment at Christ's return….

Tim, why and how are you currently on Facebook? ???

    • Tena Kolakowski /

Hey Tim, the internet doesn't know what a "sodo-fascist" is. Care to enlighten me?

    • Timothy J. Huckabay /

A sodo-fascist is a fascist individual or entity (e.g., a government or a business) that promotes sodomy and sodomites. When a government or business, for example, promotes sodomites, it is sodo-fascist; that, sadly, is the direction of many in today's governmental bodies around the world, and particulary in the United States.

    • Timothy J. Huckabay /

In case further clarification is needed, sodomy is male homosexuality. Lesbianism is the female version.

    • Timothy J. Huckabay /

Sodomy is also the equivalent of male homosexual sex between men and women.

    • Timothy J. Huckabay /

It is unnatural and contrary to God's Word and Divine Will.

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston,” Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Globe. “You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion."

I have been to Chick-fil-a many times and NEVER have I seen a sign that said they will not serve gays. This cannot even come close in comparison to what the black people went through many, many years ago….they were banned from public places, even city-maintained bathrooms and water fountains! THAT is the true definition of discrimination. Those that try to compare the two are insulting those that went through true discrimination.

Have you noticed Christians are the ones that are not allowed to publicly speak their opinion? Why is this not considered discrimination? Traditional Muslims are also against homosexuality, but they are not being attacked for this belief!

Mr. Mayor…YOU are discriminating against a population by saying they don't belong in your city. Are you going to start banning Christians from public places because you don't agree with their worldview?

  16. You Christ freaks say the Darnest things.

  17. I hope that the homosexuals do boycott chick-fil-A , It will be a pleasure to be able to go somewhere one can have an enjoyable meal with out having to be surrounded by some peverted homosexuals flanting their lifestyle around me.

    • Really? I have several gay friends and I find that a rather ungodly thing of you to say. I hope you aren't saying that you're a Christian and having such hate in you. Yes, homosexuality is wrong and it is a perversion, however, gay people still need the love of God and are in fact many times very lovable people. I know a gay man that I see as a grandfather type to me because he is one of the most loving and mature and strong people I have ever met.

These are the "2 million dollars in donations to hate groups" according to some of the people here. None of these are hate groups. They are either groups who want to defend marriage as between a man and a woman or they are Christian organizations. These people will try to convince you that these organizations are full of crazy and hateful zealots when in reality it is simply people that think homosexuality is a sin, and it's their right to think whatever they want. We can start naming hateful liberal organizations if you want but it would probably wear out my keyboard. You can get just as mad as you want, but you can't take away freedom of speech.

I guess according to the lgbt community, only liberals have a right to donate to causes important to them in an attempt to shape society. Much like they love to fund organizations that hate Christians and attempt to attack any Christian influence in society whenever they get the chance. But that's somehow not hate in their eyes.

I don't understand what the big deal is. If someone doesn't believe what I believe….so what? Different people believe different things. Why does either "side" have to start throwing rocks? I for one, won't waste my time worrying about what the masses have their shorts in a bunch over this week. Next week it will be something or someone else.
