The Chicago Republican Party says it will file a complaint with the Illinois Dept. of Human Rights and Attorney General Lisa Madigan after a local alderman vowed to stop Chick-fil-A from opening a second restaurant in the Windy City.

Alderman Joe Moreno said he will block the Atlanta-based company’s expansion plans because he disagrees with the owner’s affirmation of traditional marriage.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel supported Moreno, saying, “Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values.”
Chris Cleveland, vice chair of the Chicago Republican Party, told Fox News that Moreno’s actions “constitute clear religious discrimination.”
“Alderman Moreno has violated the First amendment rights of Chick-fil-A and the individuals in the corporation by bringing the hammer of government down upon them purely because they disagree with the religious view of the owner,” Cleveland said.
Chick-fil-A faced similar threats in Mountain View, Calif. and Boston – by Mayor Thomas Menino has since backed off his vow to ban the privately owned company.
Chick-fil-A’s president, Dan Cathy, ruffled feathers nationwide when he told Baptist Press that his company was “guilty as charged” when it came to supporting traditional marriage – a statement many critics said was an attack on same-sex unions.
Gay rights advocates have also expressed fury over the company’s financial support to a number of evangelical Christian ministries like the Family Research Council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes – groups called anti-gay by detractors.
“This solidifies Chick-fil-A as being closely aligned with some of the most vicious anti-gay voices in the country,” said Carlos Maza of Equality Matters told Associated Press.
But Cleveland said this issue has nothing to do with gay marriage.
“That’s not the issue,” he told Fox News. “It’s about religious freedom. Businesses in the city of Chicago should be able to operate without fear of saying the wrong thing.”
Chick-fil-A posted more than $4.1 billion in sales last year, most of it below the Mason-Dixon Line. Just 14 of its restaurants are in the six states and the District of Columbia where gay marriage is legal. Illinois, which does not have same-sex marriage, has around a dozen, though only one in Chicago.
The Cathy family has never hid its Southern Baptist faith. Since Dan Cathy’s father, Truett, opened the first Chick-fil-A in 1967, the restaurants have been closed on Sundays, and the company refused to reconsider during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, sacrificing profits. It also boasts that the Chick-fil-A Bowl is the only college football bowl game with an invocation.
Roger Oldham, a spokesman for the Southern Baptist Convention, said many Christians want to support businesses owned by fellow believers, and the loyalty intensifies “when Christians see a fellow Christian being persecuted.”
“They will come out of the woodwork when a theologically based position is being politicized by individuals for their own purposes,” he said.
The company has also drawn support from Billy Graham, Sarah Palin, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and Fox News Channel host Mike Huckabee – who launched “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” on August 1.

This man has a right to say what he believes in and my family would continue to support Chic-Fi-A for what they stand for. It was obvious that this situation was going to get to this point. The politicians, in their iron fisted approach, cant force Chick-fil-A to change its views just to comform with the current acceptable thinking in cities like Sh*tcago and Boston.
Those wanting to legislate against gay marriage are not conservative. They are fundamentalist. Being pro gay marriage does not make you a liberal. If anything, it's the conservative stance on the issue. Ron Paul had it right when he said marriage as a religious institution should not be endorsed by the fed, only civil unions for all.
I hope the majority of Christian African American voters in Chicago and the whole USA see the attacks against Christians that Democrats continue to persue. Perhaps this election we will vote our faith instead of our hand-outs.

I had a GREAT grilled chicken sandwich at Chick-fil-A yesterday, and I'm going to have more on August 1. I just might become addicted to these delicious, wholesome sandwiches – and the feeling I am supporting a just cause against the tyranny of the "dark side".

I look at the issue of "gay marriage" as a semantic one. I believe gays should enjoy the same constitutional rights & privileges of all Americans. They should be able to find shelter in an institution that affords them the same treatment under our laws as a traditional marriage, no more, no less. However, "marriage", as it has been defined for centuries, is between a man and a woman. There is no need & really no precedent to change its meaning. I believe that if two homosexuals wish to enter a mutual bond akin to marriage and insist on a word for it, they'll simply have to define one. I don't care what you call it, but "marriage" is taken. And really – with all the bashing and stigma that homosexuals & those apathetic to marriage typically associate with the traditionally defined heterosexual "marriage", why would you want to try to use that word to also define your "union of love" other than to stick it in the craw of those opposed to your view?
As for Chick-Fil-A – Dan Cathy is protected under the 1st amendment, period. End of discussion. Use of one's government authority to exact retribution against another for exercising their free speech rights constitutes a crime. I can assure you that when it comes down to it and these cities are faced with making the decision, their district attorneys are going to advise adherence to the law. You'll see all this political bluster and pandering scatter to the wind like dust when faced with legal action.
As you can see, I've left the religious argument completely out of it because it's really not needed. Adherence to constitutional principles doesn't require either adherence or abandonment of religion. All views must be allowed equal and fair representation under the law. You can have your opinion and influence change at the ballot box, but you can't impose it through intimidation by activist politicians who have no legislative statutes to support their actions. This was the intent of the founders and has worked pretty good so far.

I never thought it would come to this, but if the 'liberal left' wants a fight, here's one for you. I pray for God to forgive me, but If this is how it is going to be, then I call upon my Christian brothers and sisters to unite against this anti-Christian onslaught. I was suggesting to live like the Amish because so many companies support same sex marriage you simply can not avoid using their products in a modern society. That is all. Times are changing, gay marriage will be an inevitability, so will a drastic decline in religiosity the more educated society becomes.

Frank Hill , I agree with you! Christians should boycott those businesses that support gay marriage and support the establisnments that do not. That will send a message to our country. Only thing is we need to wake up and support our beliefs
Chick-Fil-A should jump on the lawsuit bandwagon in Chicago & Boston. If the people of these cities are truly behind these elected officials, they should be made to pay the consequences. I wish Chic-Fil-a would come to my town! I'd love to give them my business. It would be a bright spot in a dark place. I am not going to boycott amazon for supporting gay marriage, that is their freedom, even if I don't agree with them. Doesn't the Constitution mean anything anymore!
