(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino is saying no thanks to a southern fast food empire.
The mayor is vowing to block Chick-fil-A from bringing new stores to Boston.
The decision comes following the chain president’s views against gay marriage. Dan Cathy said the company was “guilty as charged” when it came to supporting the biblical definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.
The mayor said he doesn’t want a company that discriminates against gay and lesbians setting up shop in Boston, especially on the Freedom Trail.
Menino added that he will not allow Chick-fil-A into Boston unless they change their policy.

All homosexuals want is to be able to take care of their significant other. Why can't they get federal benefits too? It's not just for civilians either – homosexuals who serve in the military. Why is it okay for them to die for their country but they can't take care of their loved ones? Also usually family or spouses are the only ones who can visit in the hospital. So for those who get wounded during their service their boyfriend/girlfriend can't even come visit them because they aren't legally recognized as a spouse on the federal level.

The definition of marriage as people define it today was never what it started out as. Marriage was created as a way to transfer money, power, land and titles. Not for "love." It is the owner's/management of Chick-fil-A's right to believe the way they choose – just as it is this Mayor's right to believe the way he chooses, but it is not the Mayor's right to keep this restaurant out of his city. That is not American at all! It is their choice. I don't live in the U.S., but I am an American. It is the owner's/management of Chick-fil-A's right to believe the way they choose – just as it is this Mayor's right to believe the way he chooses, but it is not the Mayor's right to keep this restaurant out of his city. That is not American at all! It is their choice. I don't live in the U.S., but I am an American. Being pro something & actively supporting (with money) policies that discriminate against a group of people are two different things. This man has spent millions trying to put laws in place that discriminate against gay couples. The Boston mayor is probably not gay (I don't know but that was a stupid assumption by one of the commenters). You don't have to be gay or black, Hispanic, Asian or female to expect equal rights.

It’s more dangerous than you think.
A few days ago the Mayor of Boston made a statement about Chick Filet. He stated that he would not allow the restaurant to open any franchise in Boston. The reason that was given was that the city should not allow businesses that discriminate. However the actual issue is quite different. There is no practice of discrimination by the company. It seems that Chick Filet has taken a position affirming the use of the term marriage as applying to the union of one man and one woman as reflected in the Christian scriptures. It is not unusual for a corporation to take a position on social issues and several major corporations have taken positions favoring gay marriage. So there can be no question that companies frequently reflect their owner’s bias. The issue then is whether the government can discriminate against an individual or corporation based upon their religious or philosophical beliefs. The clear answer should be no. The government has no right to discriminate against individuals on the basis of their religion or philosophical beliefs. The Mayor of Boston is establishing a bad precedent. The Bill of Rights guarantees the freedom of religion.
This is exactly why I think we shaould give very serious thought to anarchism and mutual cooperation. It really does more that top down government the seems to not have anyone in office that represents anyone who matters to life, liberty and the pursuit of happines.

The book also claims that the world was created in 6 days 6000 years ago, that rabbits chew cud, that bats are birds, that insects have four legs, that Noah fit at least two of each of the roughly 5-10 million species at the time on the 450 foot Ark, that the mixing of salt and fresh water didn't kill all the freshwater fish in the world, that Moses led millions of Israelites through a forsaken desert wasteland, and that a zombie from Galilee will pull some strings with his dad (who is also him) to get us into Heaven. If I wanted to base my life or government on ludicrous Bronze Age texts, I could surely do better than the Bible.

As far as I heard, he didn't ban them, he wrote a letter telling them they should reconsider opening an anti-gay establishment in a city that is so supportive of diversity. I've read a copy of the letter and it never says they can'
