Sushi on Pearl Harbor Day?

Sushi on Pearl Harbor Day?

Dec 7, 2011

By Todd Starnes

Today is the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Many Americans will be marking the day with moments of silence and special ceremonies remembering those who were lost.

But students at the school where President Obama sends his daughters will be commemorating the day by eating Japanese food.

A lunch that will live in infamy declared the Washington Post.

Sidwell Friends School is a place where the one percent send their children to be educated. Tuition will set you back around $32,000 a year.

The menu today includes teriaki chicken, fried rice, and fortune cookies.

The school told the Washington Post that their Pearl Harbor Day menu was completely coincidental.

Anyone else buying that?

The President’s children may be feasting on Japanese food today but as for me — I’ll be eating an all American cheeseburger and maybe a slice of apple pie.

  1. Well, to paraphrase Barry Obama, he did say his children will be fine no matter how badly He & Congress screw up the country.

    • Yes rich people's kids are always better off. You dont think that's true. You think newt's kids are going to clean toilets with your kids?

    • Kelly Calder /

Kiki Jean-Pierre Oh geez – of course rich people's kids will be better off. I don't expect them to do the same things I do because they or their parents make more money. But that's not to say THEY will be rich when they get out of school.

  2. "The menu today includes teriaki chicken, fried rice, and fortune cookies." The title says sushi. I don't see sushi anywhere in there.

  4. Teriaki chicken and fried rice are CHINESE dishes.

When I Googled it, it said it's Japanese or probably was first Japanese…I don't know I still don't see sushi anywhere…

  6. I heard for veterans day they served actual veterans. God when are good "real'' Americans going to save us from the Kenyan, communist, marxist, socialist, mao loving traitor in ''our'' WHITE house.

    • yes, "real" Americans, i.e. native Americans. Not those darn immigrants from Europe, Asia or Africa

    • Robert Calhoun /

Alister Guale no one is native to the Americas. Your so called natives came from Russia and China. So how much time is needed to pretend to be a native American? I had a relative, 8th generation grandfather, which fought in the Revolutionary War? He was 4th generation colonist by his father. He is as much a native American as the monguls from Asia which migrated over here. The problem with your issue is that you are embarassed that when the mongels started the war, The Europeans finished it.

WHY IS THIS A "NEWS" ARTICLE! WHY IS THIS REPORTED ON! So we stop eating sushi because 70 years ago we fought Japan? GTFO Starnes. And where is the sushi on the menu? You mention teryiaki and fried rice. Shit how do I get this job where I can just make up inflammatory headlines and put out biased reporting?

  8. You are so ignorant, Todd Starnes. As an American of Japanese descent, whose father served in the US Navy, I would like to say you are not only OFFENSIVE, but also stupid beyond comprehension. Google sushi first of all. Secondly, stick that cheeseburger up your stupid, racist ass. Race-baiting is not cool. #F*CK you.

    • Well Im just curious how a hamburger with cheese is all american.. I thought it came from Hamburg Germany

I find offense in your supporting murdering japanese which attacked a United States Military facility unprovoked. The murder of over 2000 men and women was an act of a barbarian. You can either root for the United States and their freedom based beliefs or you can root for the barbaric japanese. And if you are so inclined to root for the barbarians, Delta is waiting to take you back to japan, where you barbarians live.

    • @ Robert Calhoun wow, do you have some sort of mental disease?

    • I am not rooting for anyone; the war is over. Memo: we won. I am an American, born and raised. Japanese Americans have been here since the 19th century. The 442nd Regiment of Japanese Americans fought for this country with unparalleled distinction as the MOST highly decorated in the history of the US military. I have as much right to be here as anyone. Your knowledge of history surrounding the attack is flawed, BTW. But I won't bore you with facts.

You telling me to leave the country undermines your paltry lip-service to the ideals of freedom that our country was founded upon. Whining about fried rice on Pearl Harbor Day is about as asinine as bitching about bratwurst on VE Day. We got those "barbarians" back by incinerating a million or so non-military souls with two atom bombs and thousands of aerial assaults, with some lingering radiation sickness to top it off. Killed another two million of their military; I think we can safely say that revenge was served. Now Japan is one the US's greatest allies. Your hateful, racist words only reflect poorly upon your own character, though you hide behind your adorable pup. The vileness you spew will come back to you, sir.

Nika Alexander Briggs NO, showing practices of an enemy of the United States during a holiday celebrating the selfless brave acts of our men and women which offered and gave their lives to protect us from the BARBARIC acts of the enemy is WRONG. Choose another day to eat Japanese food. I am of the American Race. I support, and offered my life to protect what the United States stands for. I protect and have protected freedoms you take for granted. I appreciate the great sacrifices others have made so you can rant and rave because you support another nation over the United States because you are a spoiled brat, snotty nose, fool which believed all the propaganda your communist teachers and professors spewed out. It is not I who has a problem, it is YOU. I respect my elders!! You respect all enemies against the freedom of the United States because you were taught that you can force everyone to believe in your communist/socialist beliefs. I am racist? I am willing to protect the Christians and Jews from annihilation from the Muslim world, and yes it is in their koran to do just that. On history, I got my information from the brave soldiers and sailors which fought in Pearl Harbor on 07Dec1941. You got yours from a sorry lazy teacher hell bent to convert this great nation to communism so he can smoke dope. My suggestion is to shut up, open your ears and eyes and finally start learning. Otherwise, move to these communist vile worlds you worship so much.

    • Robert Calhoun The author offended many Americans in general and Asian Americans in particular because of all the political issues he could intelligently confront Obama on, he has chosen to distort facts ( Japanese food vs. misc. Asian) bad-mouth high tuition ( nothing is wrong here, he can afforded it ), narrowly define patriotism ( Japanese food vs. cheeseburger/apple pies ). As for you, you are an ignorant racist because you attacked Nika Alexander Briggs for the fact that she's Japanese American. Nothing in her comment indicated support for the Pearl Harbor bombing, but yet you stretched your logic out to equate her to " murdering/barbaric Japanese " ( name calling ), hided behind " freedom based beliefs " ( Today's Japanese democracy is as freedom based as any ) then threatened to send her back to Japan while knowing that her root in America ( and many other Japanese Americans ) dated back generations and perhaps further than yours. Your feeling is based on the only fact of your skin color. You are no different than Todd Starnes and a low class racist as well.

  9. Change the title to "I couldn't be more of an Idiot" and I think this article would become legit reporting. Todd Starnes…what an ignorant fool. Few people in the US remember Pearl Harbor day, and in case you haven't noticed Japan is no longer our enemy but one of our greatest allies and trading partners.

    >mfw Fox News condemns Occupy Wall Street protesters but then complains about Obama being in "the top one percent".

  11. John Michelly /

    Just one word…MORON!

  12. Smear at the lowest form and a reflection of your racist intolerance. It's not sushi on the menu. YOU LIE!

  13. Anyone who takes Fox seriously has to have serious brain damage.

  14. Robert Calhoun /

And to show support for the brave men and women who fought for our freedoms, japanese food is not a respectful food on Pearl Harbor Day!

    • should sushi restaurants be closed on the 7th? or year round? Did you follow any Americans with Japanese ancestry back to their house and explain as they ate dinner they were being disrespectful? And what about those Americans working for Japanese car companies in the US? SHould they not turn up to work? And American tourists in Japan, if they ate on the 7th would they be disrespectful? Because if you follow your "logic" you must have been angry at all those things

  15. you americans never cease to amaze me. grab your pitchforks and torches and head down to your local sushi restaurant, leave your Honda at home, throw out your japanese made tv and cell phone, and explain to the owner he's being disrespectful just for opening and serving his customers. As you pass by a Japanese american tell him if he eats his ancestral cuisine he's being disrespectful, in fact, I guess just by being of Japanese descent he's being disrespectful. Then call up your local baseball stadium and demand they stop selling german sausages. And because the US attacked now Canadian land in 1812 you'll agree with me Canadians ought to be appauled with any american food (whatever that is!) being served in our country.
