Suspected terrorists becoming double agents? We’re learning about a top secret tactic used to fight terrorists in the aftermath of 9/11.

FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports from Washington:

In the years immediately following the 9/11 attacks, some Guantanamo Bay prisoners were sent back home to work as double agents, and help the U.S. find and kill terrorists.

The secret program was run out of a well-hidden cottages at the detention center, abandoned in 2006. The CIA recruited detainees with the promise of freedom, safety and money.

Some of the men who passed through the program did in fact help the CIA target top al Qaeda operatives, but others stopped providing helpful information and the spy agency lost touch with them.
