Study Links ADHD to Neurological Disorder, Not Behavioral Issues

A study of children and adults with attention deficit disorders suggests their brains may have structural differences, which could change the way the condition is understood.

    FOX’s Eben Brown reports:

A study of MRI images of brains of both adults and kids under treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder shows very real differences in brain structure from people not diagnosed as suffering with attention deficit issues.

The findings are published this week in the medical journal ‘The Lancet Psychiatry.’ Specifically, the brains studied of ADHD patients have smaller amygdala and hippocampi, which would affect impulse control. The study suggests more evidence that ADHD is a neurological disorder more than a behavioral problem.
