Putnam: Political ‘Shouting Matches’ Only Hurt Our Children

Wednesday on "The Alan Colmes Show," Alan spoke with author and Harvard Professor Robert Putnam about his new book, Our Kids. The premise of the book is that children across the country are suffering from an "opportunity gap," which is causing a major rift between the wealthier and poorer sections of the country.

Alan and Putnam discussed how the public school system was practically invented the last time a gap like this existed, and it came from the local government level, not the federal. They also talked about Putnam's influence over Presidential decisions regarding education, why free community college is just one way to close the opportunity gap, and why the idea that the more money a family has, the more nurturing they are, has to end.
