A nine-month-old Missouri boy is fatally shot by his five-year-old brother.

FOX News Radio’s Jeff Monosso reports:

Police in the small town of Elmo in northwest Missouri say a five-year-old boy found a loaded .22-caliber handgun Monday morning on a shelf in his parent’s bedroom, picked it up and that’s apparently when it fired, sending a bullet into a playpen in the same room, hitting the boy’s nine-month-old brother. And neighbors in the town of less than 200 say they’re having a hard time grasping what happened.

(Neighbors) “It was just very chaotic I mean, you know, you don’t comprehend what’s happening.//Everybody, you know, is heartbroken over this.”

The Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department says an investigation into the baby’s death is ongoing. And that there’s no reason to believe the tragedy was anything other than an accident.
