How will the Texas National Guard function along the border? And, will they work with Federal authorities already there?

Fox News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal reports:

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson says they don’t know exactly what one thousand National Guard troops will do on the border in Texas–

Johnson: “But whatever that is, I would hope that our Customs and Border personnel, our Immigration Customs Enforcement personnel would work effectively with them.”

John Nichols is the Adjutant General of Texas, and he says they’re being activated by the Governor of their state, so they’re going to support the State Department of Public Safety, which is looking for human and drug smugglers–

Nichols: “Our purpose is to help DPS deter criminal activity. There are criminals coming through the border right now. Those folks can be arrested by DPS.”

And stopped before they commit crimes in Texas.
