Obama Calls Meeting With Congressional Leaders Over Shutdown

    Budget Battle

President Obama agrees to meet with Congressional leaders today to talk about the government shutdown.

FOX News Radio’s Mike Majchrowitz reports from the White House.

It’s not clear yet if the President has a new proposal to put on the table or if this is a reaction to criticism that he hasn’t been talking to Republicans about the impasse. The meeting late this afternoon will bring together for the first time since the stand off began the President and House Speaker John Boehner, as well as House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and the top Senate Democrat and Senate Republican. The invite was welcomed by the Speaker — a Boehner spokesman saying the Speaker is “pleased the president finally recognizes that his refusal to negotiate is indefensible”.
