    Women in Combat

Greater combat roles are becoming available to women serving in the military.

FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports from Washington:

A gender neutral military, that’s the idea, as Pentagon commanders plan to open up thousands of front-line combat positions to women.

Marine Corps Colonel John Aytes says it means setting standards based on jobs, not gender.

(Aytes) “A tank gunner must reach over to the rack, lift that 55 pound shell from the rack, pull it out, flip it over and insert it into the breach.”

The Pentagon says full integration of men and women in front-line and special operations units should be completed by 2016.
