Supreme Court Throws Out AZ Voting Law

    Supreme Court

Do you need to show proof you are an American citizen to vote? The Supreme Court says no.

FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports from Washington:

The Supreme Court is tossing out Arizona’s voter-approved law requiring extra documentation to prove U.S. citizenship. A signature swearing citizenship is all that’s required on a federal voting registration form, Arizona’s law required more. But a 7-2 Supreme Court opinion rules such a requirement is trumped by federal law. Justice Scalia writing the Constitution prescribes a straightforward rule for the composition of the federal electorate.

The wait continues for landmark opinions on same-sex marriage and a challenge to an affirmative action policy at the University of Texas.
