A 12-year-old Texas boy is told he can’t suit up for Pee Wee football this season, because he is too big.

FOX News Radio’s Steve Rappoport reports:

Audio clip:

At six-feet-tall, nearly 300 pounds, and just 12-years-old, Elijah Earnheart only wants one thing.

(Earnheart) “I just want to play.”

But Elijah will have to suit up somewhere else.

The Mesquite Texas Pee Wee Football Association ruling he’s too big to play. The league president says any seventh grader weighing more than 135 pounds must join the school league.

(Earnheart) “I don’t want to play in school right now because it’s people that have experience of playing. I just want the experience first.”

And his coach Marc Wright points out…

(Wright) “A lot of kids over the weight limit, and they’re allowing them to play.”

The coach and Elijah’s mother protesting the decision.

Good decision to not allow a 300 lb 12 yr old boy to play. The safety of all the kids is more important. I feel sorry for the big boy.

I feel bad for Elijah. But having had a smaller kid in Pee Wee football in the past, I understand the safety concerns. Elijah is not alone in being kept off of these teams. However, it's the best choice for the safety of the others.

Why would you feel sorry for him? He has an opportunity to play with kids his own age in in middle school. He wants to play in the smaller league against smaller kids.

I coach 7th grade football in Ga. he can play for me, there is know weight limit. My son is on the 8th grade team and he is one of the smallest on his team, they have kids well over 6ft 250lb and over.
I see more big kids getting hurt than the smaller one's. Cindy bring Elijah to the ATL, he will be welcome with open arms.
