AMA Supports Required Obesity Classes For Kids

America’s largest physician organization is stepping up the fight against obesity.

The American Medical Association throwing its weight behind new policies to try and fight excess weight. Agreeing to support legislation requiring classes aimed at preventing obesity for grades one through twelve.

The AMA also supporting the idea of taxing sugar sweetened sodas as one way to help pay for the programs. Though the group stopped short of a full fledged endorsement. Some doctors thinking soda taxes would disproportionately hurt the poor.

Obesity affects about a third of U.S. adults and almost one-in-five kids.
