Housecall for Health: Long Commutes Widen Your Waistline

Road rage, bad drivers, construction and car accidents.  These may not be the only perils that commuters contend with on the road into work every day, according to research from a St. Louis-area school.

FOX’s Colleen Cappon has the story in today’s “Housecall for Health”:

No one likes a long commute, but new research suggests it may be bad for your health. Washington University scientists find that those who drive longer distances to work have higher BMI’s, waist circumference and blood pressure.  They also exercise less, meaning a lower level of cardiorespiratory fitness.

Experts say long commuters are less likely to have time to cook healthy meals or get enough sleep, adding to the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
