FOXLight – DVD Releases: Week of 4-16-2012

Tom Cruise’s mission was to wipe out the stinkfest of M:I:3, and he chose to accept it, in this week’s FOXLight DVD release roundup.  Six years and one unfortunate couch jump later, Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and brings more action and charm, and less complexity, than the previous three combined…

Michael Fassbender is a joyless sex addict, and Carey Mulligan is his equally unhappy sister in Shame.  When sis moves in uninvited, Fassbender’s privacy is shattered, and unhealthy feelings stemming from unspoken family misdeeds rise to the surface in this unflinching character study…

Morgan Freeman narrates the IMAX feature Born To Be Wild, which tracks orphaned elephants and orangutans and the human teams that seek to rescue and rehabilitate them in their own habitat.

Coming straight-to-DVD

The Divide did well on the festival circuit, which is rare for popcorn action-ers of this type.  In it, nine strangers are barricaded in their apartment building’s basement as nuclear warheads rain down on Manhattan.  Starring Lauren German, Milo Ventimiglia, Rosanna Arquette and Michael Biehn

And a different group of strangers find themselves stranded in a house where some gruesome murders occurred 100 years earlier in 7 Below.  Starring Val Kilmer, Ving Rhames and Bonnie Somerville.
