Securing America: Defending the Killing of American Terrorists

The Obama Administration is making its case for killing terror suspects overseas, even if they carry U.S. citizenship.

FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern has the details from Washington in our ongoing series on national security:

U.S. citizenship is not a shield from a lethal U.S. strike, Attorney General Eric Holder warns.

(Holder) “When such individuals take up arms against this country and join al-Qaeda in plotting attacks designed to kill their fellow Americans.”

Holder never mentioned Anwar al-Awlaki by name, but did layout a legal framework for why the American-born cleric was killed in a drone strike five months ago in Yemen.

(Holder) “This is an indicator of our times.  But it is not a departure from our laws and our values.”

…If the threat is imminent, capture is not feasible and killing is consistent with the laws of war.  The ACLU is not satisfied, calling Holder’s explanation “dangerous.”
