Securing America: DHS Spending Under Fire.

A federal program, designed to keep potentially dangerous chemicals safe from terrorists, now in jeopardy after a critical report.

FOX News Radio’s Jane Metzler has more in our ongoing series on national security:

One Democratic staffer on Capitol Hill calling an internal Department of Homeland Security report obtained exclusively by FOX News disturbing and disappointing. It criticizes the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards program…or CFATS — for wasteful spending and an unqualified workforce. Established in 2007 the program allows the Department of Homeland Security to collect and review information from the nation’s chemical facilities, to make sure they don’t pose a threat. About 1,300 have removed chemicals of concern. Procedures for CFATS inspections have yet to be completed. Funding for the program runs out next September and may or may not be renewed.
