Camp Victory Handed Over To Iraqis [VIDEO]

It was home to thousands of U.S. troops during the Iraq War.  Now with no fanfare and just a few signatures on some paperwork, Camp Victory has been placed into the hands of the Iraqis as the U.S. Military prepares to withdraw from Iraq.

FOX’s Dominic Di-Natale reports from Baghdad:

About Camp Victory:

Camp Victory sits about 10 miles West of Downtown Baghdad near the International Airport.  It used to be the Headquarters for the U.S. Military in Iraq.

Camp Victory is massive.  It consists of the sprawling complex of grandiose former palaces of Saddam Hussein, encircled by 27 miles of blast walls.

The U.S. Military carved bases out of Camp Victory’s palaces and surrounding farmland. Streets and pathways have names like “Washington” and “Lost Lake”.

The U.S. Military spent tens of millions of dollars to build the camp with specific modifications to fit its needs.

However, in the process, the Military went out of its way to preserve important evidence of Hussein’s rule of more than three decades. It is unclear if the Iraqis will keep the reminders of Hussein’s years in power intact, as the Iraqi Government has gone out of its way to erase any reminders of his rule.
