New data shows that pet owners are happier, healthier and better adjusted than those who don’t have a pet.

Previous studies have shown that owning a pet can have benefits for those with health problems, and a recent study from Miami University proves that a vast majority of the 7.1 million American homes that have pets believe that their pets increase their self-esteem and help them live a more meaningful life.

The study was published by The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
