What a shame! Our service members deserve better! Delta should more than look into it they should reimburse those people immediately without delay and change that policy as as communicate clearly and strongly the change throughout their company.
As far as I am concerned this is strike 2 for Delta with me. I will watch the news closely to see further developments before I fly on Delta again and maybe the US government should consider the same.
Of course they raised the limit since they were wrong in the first place. I returned from Iraq in October 2010 and flew into Atlanta on a military chartered plane. I had to transfer to the main terminal and check in at the ticket counter with Delta to catch my connecting flight. There was four of us. Each one of our orders stated "four checked bags" and of course Delta quoted the contrary. Needless to say extra money was forked out of pocket because Delta was not going to back down on the fee. So, who is wrong? Delta or the military. The Army already pays a hefty price tag for each ticket and in my belief Delta played ignorant in making a little extra coin. In their mind who is getting hurt; not the soldier who will be reimbursed for something the military already payed for. The GAO should pry into this matter going back at least ten years and see how much extra income they have handed over to Delta airlines by double paying.
Reaping the benefit of the military [especially the Air Force] to protect Delta’s ability to use air space but yet Delta is denying military personnel to bring aboard their necessary while in air transit is a clear case of exploiting America’s military. __Dr BearClayborn_
