It's funny how volunteering to help in a dangerous situation usually involves some self sacrifice, knowing that you are doing a job where others would fear to tread. Certainly anyone in the area knew that the air was toxic and unless they wore protection they'd be exposing themselves to dangerous fumes. Perhaps all the first responders should fall under the protection of the Veterans Administration and receive free health care from an existing government entity. After all they are the first casualties in this on going war.
